Newbie Question
Hi there!
I have a little question on starting a game:
if the computer is allowed to add random races, does he choose them from the predefined races or does he create totally new ones? It is important for me, as i want to play against the pre-defined races but don't want to know against which ones I play.
Especially with the Star-Trek-mod. I don't want to have the computer play the klingons against their known behaviour.
So far I can say, SEIV is a great game. It's a perfect replacement for the boring ***3.
Thanks!

Re: Newbie Question
It picks from a pre-defined list of races; adding them this way is not really different than adding them by hand.

The Klingons are really not much worse than many other stock races. It's those Romulans who often seem to take an instant dislike to me.

Re: Newbie Question
SE add random races from the "your favorite mod if any"/pictures/races folder. There is no danger you'l get Terrans in your ST game

Re: Newbie Question
Technically though, the randomly-generated AI races are slightly different than the ones hand-picked from EMP files. They will select slightly different abilities - there are variations of each AI race which only appear if you randomly generate them.

Re: Newbie Question
How is that ? You generate random AI, save it as an .emp file. Next game load the emp file, how on earth it can be any different

Re: Newbie Question
Oops! Getting complicated. So, if i allow the computer to add random races, he picks the existing ones and changes them a little? For example, it could be that I play against the terrans who suddenly have temporal ability or else?

Re: Newbie Question
no, they're confusing you. it is because some races have slightly different settings in their [racename]_ai_settings.txt file than in their appropriate .emp files.

Actually it is the racename.general.txt file that is important if the computer uses this race as random AI empire. As Taera said the race setup in the general.txt file may or may not be different than the one in the empire file which is used when you add the race manually. It depends if the creator of the race took the time to coordinate the general.txt file and the empire file.
Hope this helps you.
