Well, this question comes up often, so I finally checked. I've got two games saved that are pretty much complete. They have 230 and 249 turns done. That seems a little long compared to most people, but I do enjoy stomping on the AI with superior technology and numbers.

For future reference, the check boxes are meant for polls where you can select multiple options.

That is a very hard poll to complete, because it all depends on the Game settings and if you actually complete it or just get bored a start playing that game.

Huge Galaxy (200 systems, 20 Races) = 200-300 turns and stop when bored.
Large Galaxy (100 systems, 20 Races) = 100-200 turns and stop when MEE.
Other Game settings I usually get MEE and bored about 100-150 turns.

PBW - Only completed 1 game = 8 turns.
Other PBW Games are on an average of 50 turns with a 5 day turn around. Currently the highest PBW game I is on turn 121.

Well, I've got one proportions game that's just starting to get to the major battle stage at turn 125, where I severely underestimated how many troops to send to capture a homeworld. Most other games end somewhere between 40 turns (a one on one duel with a friend) to 80 turns (Where the group of people I play with typically gets bored).

50 turns?.... In my Sp games, I have always played cluster/large and as many AIs as it cares to generate. 50 turns and your games are over? 50 turns in mine and the game is barely starting to get rolling. What are you playing with, 2 systems and 3 players? I don't know, that just seems kind of low when you hear all this talk about maxing ECM Sensors, fully trained ships and stuff. All in 50 or so turns? Somehow the math don't add up. Time it takes to research that stuff, many turns spent sitting in training. Are you attacking with fully trained 125/125 bezerker escorts with DUC2 weapons?

My games go from 200-300 turns. By then I'm totally man handling the AI and get bored. I have a Devnull game right now that is close to turn 200. I have completly wiped out the Monsters and totally shut myself off from the rest of the AIs. I keeo going from first to second place and back again in the game though. I am in the process of taking out the Norak systems with a big fleet I sent in.

Going back to my savegame archives, the shortest completed game I've had was 66 turns long. This was a two player game in a mid-life medium sized quadrant. The exact numbers were lost due to a mistaken empire file replacement, but I played a rock/methane berserker with maximum defensiveness, average aggressiveness, weak physical combat, enhanced intelligence, impressive reproduction, 50% political aptitude, reduced organics, superior construction. The racial advantages I picked were hardy industrialists and temporal construction.

I went for training facilities right away, but ended up never having to build them as I managed to win enough early battles with torpedoes II to get the temporal weapons researched. I had sensors III, ECM I, and the first level of stealth armour researched by the end of the game.

My opponent was a oxygen/rock deeply religious warrior culture with impressive aggressiveness and average defensiveness. I won the first few battles between single shiops and picked up enough momentum that he wasn't able to recover. He eventually fled to the far end of the galaxy, and then surrendered rather than make me hunt him down.

All in all, it was a lot more fun than the other duel we had where it evolved into a minefield stalemate in a small galaxy.

Dice, was that 66 turn game low tech cost? And what was the starting tech level? If you don't remember, not biggie, was just curious.

Settings play a big part in game length. Low starting tech, high tech cost, huge galaxy, all have an impact.

I've played solo Proportions games that have gone to >600 turns before now. Currently at turn 349 of my latest solo game, and I've only made contact with 2 races and explored about 10% of the galaxy...
