Re: pbem
First get all players to send you their empire files.
You then add these to the game in the Players screen
in the Mechanics screen choose different machines for play style and either Turn based movement or simultaneous movement.
If you choose turn base movement player one does his turn then sends the .gam file to player 2 who then sends it to player 3.
In simultaneous movement all players will send a .plr file to the host who will then log in as the host and process the turn and then send the .gam file to all players.
(you should also send the .trn file and .cmb file)

Re: pbem
PBW is a lot better than PBEM, because it automates all of the tedious tasks of hosting.

Re: pbem
Thanks for the info. I hope I can make it work.
Yeah, PBW does sound like fun, but I just don't have the time to play real-time like that right now. A PBEM turn can be done whenever it's convenient. I'd like to give PBW a try someday, though. Just reading these Posts makes it clear how much I've been missing, playing against he AI.
Thanks again.

Re: pbem
PBW is not really that much different from PBEM. You just e-mail or upload your turns to the PBW site It is not 'real time'. Many games give you up to 72 hours (or more) to send in your turn.

Re: pbem
PBW is not real time. It _is_ PBEM, except the PBW server handles the collection of plr files, turn execution, and distribution of turn files. It plays exactly like PBEM.

PBW is the same thing as PBEM besides the fact that the host has to manually run the turns himself.
If you play PBW you can play a turn whenever it is convenient for you as well. Put the game on Last Player Upload and the game will not run the turn until you have uploaded your turn file to the server.

pbem
The manual explains in detail how to play by web, but it's not so clear, at least to me, about pbem. Could someone please give me a step-by-step on setting up a pbem game?
Thanks in advance!

Re: pbem
Thanks. I had the impression that PBW was for live play over the net. I didn't realize that you could play a turn whenever it was convenient, like PBEM. If it's simpler to PBW, I'll have to try it that way.

Re: pbem
You were thinking of TCP/IP, which requires all involved players to be Online at the same time, playing turns.
