Default Modding Questions

Ok, i'm new to the whole modding thing, but i'm learning. My main question is this: If I add my own weapons to the SEIV components file, will the AI recognize them, or is there something i need to do?

No.

First, you must make AI to research them if you designed a new tech area. Simply add new areas into AI_research.txt file.

Second. Even if AI "know" your new weapons it will not use them unless you modify AI_designcreation.txt file. Open such file in any of race directory. Designs have "majority component = weapon" and then a list for weapon choices. Each number is a code for different weapon. For example, 1 - APB, 8 - PPB, etc.
Replace the numbers with numbers you assigned to your new components in components.txt Now AI will use your weapons !

Man, your avatar threw me off Steelpanther. I looked through this post thinking that Tigga was the one posting. Because I just see the avatar out of the corner of my eye as I read a post and I can see who posted the message. But yours being the same as Tigga made me think it was actually Tigga who posted and not you. Just thought I'd mention that.

I didn't say anything was wrong with the tiger. I was just stating how stupid I am for thinking it was Tigga and not you. And yes the tiger is cool.

Edit: Ok, I was bored so I found this picture of a panther on the net. It's cool, it's got a blue tint to it like steel does (well some of it) just like your name. Steelpanther. How sad is that for me to actually go looking for a picture of a panther.

Ok, to do this go to "My profile" up in the right corner. Then go to "View/update profile".
Then scroll down, find the button, "select different avatar image". New window will pop up.
On the bottom of that box will be a line that says "Use Custom URL:" then a text field. Then a button saying "Set URL". In the text field put the URL of the image in there. Upload the image to your own server space or you can upload it to the Shrapnel server. I took the chance to do that for you.
The thing is the avatar has to be 48 by 48 pixels. So I had to resize it. But with it being wider then it is tall it looks a bit off. So it's up to you if you still wanna use it. But in that text area put this link. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1035342641.gif

That should do it. That will make your avatar look something like this...

Actually, my avatar is a 128x128 picture, and the forum resizes it automatically using height and width settings in the < img> tags that it uses when generating the html for each page. You don't have to resize the pics for the avatar.
