buy se iv gold or not?

Hi,

i have had the seIV game since it came out. I use a lot of star trek mods because the built in races look to ahem, "weird" for me to take them "seriously". They don't create a believable athmosphere. Anyway, i saw that the gold edition has a utility of some kind to select mods and this looks like one good reason for me to buy the gold edition.
I'm not wild about the TCP/IP support since i don't play Online. Is the gold edition worth my while?

Also, will we ever see a Version 5? I hope so. 2 of my most favorite games started of by 1/2 developer(s) (other one i like is American Civil War at http://adanaccommandstudies.com/, free download and a new Version in the works. interface needs work)

Gold does come with the mod selector- but you can get that for 1.49. It also comes with a bunch of other usermade stuff to spare people the download.

So, Online play not counting, you get:
-Drones
-Somewhat smarter AI
-patch support- important since 1.49 has the player-order problem, Gold doesn't (in 1.49 the first player in the list ALWAYS shoots first in combat. Not nice for WP defense)
-New mods like Proportions that only work on Gold

I'd say it's worth it, but then I already have it

i didn't know you could get the modselector for seiv. can you provide a link?
also, aren't the latest mods incompatible with 1.49?

Some are, there are still some being made in 1.49. The mod picker should be in the download forum here at Shrapnel.. I don't have a copy.

Yeah, most of the mods work for Gold only now, but the old Versions are still available. Also there is the B5 mod, which is being developed under 1.49 (please correct me, if I am wrong).

anyway, it is a good idea to get the Gold Version. very important bugfixes, much better AI, support in the future both for the game and the mods are worth it, IMHO. plus there are going be some new toys for modders, which will probably result in some nifty things

thanks for the answer guys, i have ordered the gold Version. while i'm waiting for gold, what are some of the toughest races in gold?
is there a mod which contains a lot of star trek races?

There's tons of Star Trek shipsets. Atrocities has made the majority of them. There's others too just can't remember their names. Just look for a post of Atrocities and look in his sig, there you will find all the shipsets he's made, 8472, TMP, TOS, you name it. Hope that helps...

i think i used his races for 1.49.

Normally i order from this site. Now i ordered from http://www.strategic-plus.co.uk
in the hopes that it arrives here sooner, hehe.
I'm in holiday so it would be nice if i can enjoy it during the next weeks.
And that while i have a big game going in 1.49
A huge galaxy just takes a long time to conquer.

Yea that was annoying. I had not actually paid attention enough in my gold games to notice it was different but have been basing my strategy assuming it was still there . So how does it work now?
