Default Weapon damage types, now this is a little odd...

As is well documented the engine only and weapon only damage types skip all shields and armor and get straight to the component.

I assumed that the "Only Boarding Parties" and "Only Security Stations" weapons do the same thing, but I was incorrect. They do not skip shields. They do skip armor though.

That's kind of wierd, isn't it?

I understood it as the shields have to be down before boarding parties can approach the target vessel blow a hole in your armor and assault the ship

I suppose that makes sense for the security stations, as the shields would need to be down before you can board any way. But why for boarding parties? Or do boarding parties help defend a ship from being boarded?

Yes, boarding parties have both attack and defense strength. Which is why I'd like to be able to choose how many to expend on an attack, so I could keep some in reserve if I thought I could do so and still capture my target. As it is, you really ought to include a Security Stations component to defend your emptied boarding ship after it's used all it's marines. Or at least a self-destruct device.
