Default Ok...so how do you...

How in the heck do you do Blockades when you arent using Tactical Combat? I've tried assigning 'Dont Get Hurt' orders to a fleet and that doesnt work...they beeline for the planet and get greased by WPs.

I've tried making a new Strategy called 'Blockade' which has all movement set to 'Dont get hurt' and firing set to 'Dont attack Planets'. I also disabled all of the 'break formation' triggers. And still, my ship moves away for a turn and the flies directly into the planetary guns and gets fragged.

So....how in the heck do I keep my people orbiting a planet to blockade it without having them charge and die incessantly?

Any help would much appreciated before I toss my monitor out the window in frustration!

Thanx,
Talenn

Hi,

your problem is that the ships strategy colides with the fleet strategy. In the construction window you can set a default strategy for each ship type. Unfotunately the ship strategy sometimes collides with the fllet strategy.

So if you are playing turnbased against the ai you can set all you ships strategies to don't get hurt and your fleet strategy to don't get hurt. If you do this all ships will run for the corners as soon as you enter orbit.

The annoying thing will be that you have to reset all strategies afterwards, so that your other fleets behave like intended.

Hrm. I thought the whole idea of fleet strategies is that they override ship strategies (in Gold only if your ships do not break formation, in 1.49 regardless of formations). Are you saying that the fleet strategy is being completely ignored in all cases?

Other SHIPS maybe, but since fleet strategies are set on a fleet-by-fleet basis, I don't see any reason why you'd need to fix your other fleets.

You could add a new strategy called "Blockade" rather than change the "Don't Get Hurt" settings; then you could just assign that strategy without affecting the rest of your fleets.
