SE IV Gold and Regular Compatibility

Are Gold and Regular compatible for two-person e-mail play? Would it matter if the host was using Gold and the other player was using regular or vice versa?

I have seen this question asked but have seen no answer, Nor have I found where it was addressed in the Gold documantation.

Definetly not. At it's root Gold is a new Version of SE4, and SE4 has never been cross Version compatible like that. All players have to be on the same Version number. 1.60 in the case of Gold.

It might be possible to take a game being played in 1.49 and continue in Version 1.60, but all players would have to have Gold to continue playing, and you would not be able to go back for sure. I am not even positive you can go forward, there were a lot of changes.

Most definitely not compatible.

You've got different SE4 Versions, and what amounts to different Mods as well.

You can convert a 1.49 game to 1.60, no problem. However, you cannot play with to different Versions. SE4 make sure the host and the client are using the same data files so no one can cheat. If the two differ from each other, SE4 will put out a warning and refuse to proceed.
