Default What sets Support Points?

When playing the Long Campaign what sets the number of Support Points you receive?

I started out with just a single company of @600 points and set the Preferences to 600 for my troops and left the other side at XXX. Then I was given 720 Support Points - which seems excessive.

Also, if I leave the other side at XXX, is my opponent going to be proportional to my 600 points or does the AI get some other number?

Its a campaign - so your enemy points will always be "XXX". Setting the enemy sides points is therefore completely irrelevant in campaigns. The enemy force will always be in proportion to your core's current value plus any support bought, modified by battle type and posture.

Your own points value is simply a maximum buy for battle number 1 is all in a campaign. Its irrelevant post that point - you get build/repair points instead.

If you don't want the support then simply don't use the points, or use only a little of it - the enemy buy will be against what your force value actually is. Points not spent on support are therefore zero value to the AI.

((Core+support)* battle type modifier) => enemy buy points

720 support points on a 600p core may be because its an attack or an assault?. Its always useful to be able to buy support arty or engineers etc if attacking, after all. Support is optional, the points value allocated is simply a maximum.

What mapsize do you use for a 600p coreforce? And I often tend to overuse my support points so that theres to muck troops on a way too small map. It would be interesting to know how many points one should use on each mapsize, for balance in gameplay.

Map size depends on many things - but especially whether you have a force that is foot or motor.

If playing with a mainly rifle battalion core in WW2, I see 80x80 as about right, since you can walk the guys over that in an assault etc. in a reasonable number of turns.

And when playing with mostly motorized troops? Battalion size that is.

Then use the default map size of 80 tall and 100 wide.

It really depends on what you want to simulate. I haven't had time to play a big map, big force game in years. When I do play I tend to favour company sized mainly infantry battles in and around a map with a small town so I get a lot of use out of 30x30 maps using the map generator set to 3 or 4 urbanization.

Bottom line... everyones different. If you try something and the troops seem too sparse, use a smaller map. If it seems too crowded, use a bigger one. For a campaign I would go a bit larger rather than smaller but that depends on if you like using mech recce with a lot of room to manoever. In that case you'll want the maps big and the points low.
