Default OOB 67 - Sudan

Sudan purchased 200 Chinese Type 96A MBT from China, these were essentially the same as the chinese Type 96G with thermal sights, but without the spaced armour for turret and ERA for the hull.

South Sudan received 32 T-72A/AVs from Ukraine.

Don't know exactly when the received the Type 96A (Al-Bashier) but there were photos shown as early as 2009.

Youtube video showing a Sudanese Parade in 2011, features Chinese Type 59D (Al-Zubair 2), locally produced upgrade T-55 with 105mm L7 and ERA (Al-Zubair 1), and Type 96A (Al-Bashier).

Also showed upgrade BMPs with a new turret..and BTR-80A with 30mm AC.

T-72AV thats were hijacked by Somalis Pirates back in 2008 found their way to South Sudan..

Another video showing the same equipments, but this time back in 2009.

Military Industry Corporation, which manufactures light and heavy equipment for the Sudan's Peoples Armed Forces.

Includes Shareef 1/2 which is the BTR-80A with 30mm 2A72.7.62mm MG, and Chinese Type 92 (WZ-551) with 30mm 2A72/7.62 MG.

"The Sudan military parade in 2007 had a strong Chinese color, as most of the armored weapons were from China. The same parade revealed that the Sudan air force had Chinese-made K8 military trainers. Three K8 trainers and three MiG-29s flew over the capital during the parade. Images from the parade have revealed to the world that the Sudanese army resembles a second Chinese Liberation Army."

1. This is always a good start point...
http://www.armyrecognition.com/sudan...ence_pict.html

2. No evidence of newer Chinese type tanks, but refs point to Chinese anti-tank mines. However this source (amnesty.) shows a picture of a T-72M1 of Ukrainian origin. In PDF format, for the topic at hand go to page 18. The second ref also cites T-54/55 tanks as well at the same location the T-72M1 was photographed. The number has to be small though for all types, especially the T-72's.
The source of ref two is generally considered good and is looked at by official agencies because they can sometimes get into places others can't. Linked to ref two by ref one news sources.

You might find item 1 armor of interest, The M-60A3 I've seen in the national news broadcasts here in the states when the war was being covered.

Fallout Re: OOB 67 - Sudan

Saw a 503 Error (Whatever that is-don't care either.) on the Amnesty ref of the last post. So here is a 2nd link provided by the BBC ref of the last as well. Study conducted by the Canadian Govt./UN Sudan mission groups. Again no proof of newer Chinese tanks, though China has been a major supplier of ammunition and light weapons. The Ukrainian T-72 tanks are confirmed, with the one pictured looking like the T-72M1 if I was to make the call. This would back the Amnesty Report as well. The PDF report is very detailed to the groups involved, manning, weapons, AOO and logistics etc. These are from April 2012. Amnesty report and BBC article of previous post were from June 2012.

Just verified links are good.
Amnesty link of previous good now-503 must be a temporary thing-I LEARNED SOMETHING.

Fallout Re: OOB 67 - Sudan

Couldn't get it in there in time and almost forgot, But all the refs thus far said South Sudan got the improved Ukrainian
T-72M1, that would make them under Ukrainian designation then the T-72MP here are the improvements "in a nut shell" as follows...
"T-72MP
Ukrainian upgrade with a 1,000-hp engine, added armor, Shtora-1, and SAGEM FCS and thermal sights."

http://www.morozov.com.ua/eng/body/t72mp.php
,

Click on Mobility, Protection and Firepower under "T-72 modernization..." for more in-depth system info above the comparison table. I would think these are readily available in the Ukraine OOB. This is one of the tanks the OPLOT was meant to replace.

Sorry about that a long night and early start today. Must've felt my son-in-laws pain of "hell night" before his CPO pinning ceremony this morning.
That's right Suhiir another "bubblehead" in the family!?!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,
Pat

I highly doubt the T-72s in South Sudan are the T-72MP version, since they don't look anything like them from the screencap/video shown at port. They are probably more closely resemble the T-72UA1 upgrade, which is a new 1050hp engine, APU, Air conditioning, and new ERA. It still utilizes the original sights/FCS of the base model tank.

You know that info is first of all Russian-right? Those tanks all sources agree came from the Ukraine. The Ukraine's (Former Soviet.) tank plant only offers three upgrade programs for the T-72 the
T-72MP, T-72AG and T-72-120 NATO compliant version.
http://www.morozov.com.ua/eng/body/t72.php

I will concede there is a small possibility there might be some of those Russian tanks there based on the 2008 hijacking of a Ukrainian ship off Somalia in 2008 with 33 Russian tanks and ammo designated for Kenya. Again though based on the refs I've provided only Ukrainian T-72 tanks have been identified in country. But Kenya was a named trans ship point into the Sudan. But my sense now is some of the 200 T-72 tanks Ethiopia bought last year in a SECRET deal as reported many times in the MBT Thread makes me wonder now, they were the MP version and still no details have emerged still on the deal except they were bought and paid for, origin and model, to whom from whom and the first shipments were to be delivered late last fall. I personally right now can't say the Russian tanks are there (Sudan/S. Sudan) when Amnesty (That has too much to lose in reputation and money.) and the Canadian Govt. and two UN arms agencies say they aren't and the Ukrainian tanks are. Kenya as I recall did eventually get those tanks at a later date and again based on the on scene sources have to assume they're still in Kenya that has issues of it's own with internal issues. Here's some refs on the hijacking...

http://www.stratfor.com/sample/situa...krainian-tanks

I hope you took note on whose tanks they were from above, the PITA as Don would say concerning equipment issues which is why I stand by my conclusions and also the Ukraine has not denied the sales of those tanks.

Pat
