Yes, at least episodes quite similar. Recently at the most opportune time, too: In a defensive scenario going into the last turn, everything was fine--had all the objectives, almost every enemy tank in sight was a blazing wreck, and their infantry was running for cover.
But on the Soviet's last turn, a single tank emerged abruptly from the rear and treaded upon (no pun intended) a VH behind my last trench line. There were four German infantry units within two or three hexes of the objective, and the tank was retreating--apparently it had seen its buddies brewing up along the trench and thought better of continuing the fight. Yet all those German units were pinned, none would rally, and there were no friendly tanks anywhere in range.
What to do? Having lost the VH, a DV was probably unattainable, so my thoughts turned to simple revenge. Kill that fershlugginer tank! Had a squad with panzerfaust ammo remaining try from 100 meters. Well hey, they got a lucky hit, and guess what else happened? At the instant the tank exploded, a ring of bright squares appeared around the firing unit, and they had just enough MP to make it to the VH. And yes, securing the objective provided the margin of decisive victory.
Heroic rallies (if that's what it was) are always nice, but this one was sublime.
