Default DOGA/Bryce (ship modelers read)

Anyone here use either or both of these programs?

I have L3 and Bryce 5. I like Bryce's interface better, as well as it's other options, but can't ignore the vast number of parts L3 offers. Problem is, assembling models in L3 and exporting them to Bryce doesn't work too well when it comes time to assign materials.

So I've started converting all the part files to Bryce .obp format, so I can assemble ships in Bryce using the DOGA L3 parts. (yes, that's as much of a PITA as it sounds). The question is, is anyone else interested in these files once I'm finished?

i use L3 and Bryce 4. if the files you are making are compatible with Bryce 4 i would love to get my hands on them. That would be awesome . Check out some of my new designs in the new races preview thread. only the M was done from scratch in bryce the others were imported from L3. If I had those parts that would be beautiful

Good job on em.

The files *may* be compatable with Bryce 5; the only way to be sure is to check. Also, some of the parts didn't convert right and some are missing . I think I used L2 to make the files, I've had them for a while. Still, it's better than nothing.

Should have all the files ready to go by tommarow.

EDIT: Here's how you do it, just in case you find a specific part you want or my files prove inadequite/don't work.

Load up a blank Doga file. Add the part you want, and export as a .dxf file. Make sure to select a size of 1, or close to it; using Doga's default resizing factor will make the part so small Bryce will ignore it!

Once the part has exported, import it into Bryce. If it doesn't work, try exporting in a different format or increasing the scaling factor when you export.

From here, you can either stay with the .dxf file, or add the part as a Bryce object. To do that, select the imported part then click the triangle next the the Create button. That drops you into the Objects window. From here, select the folder and catagory you want your part to go in. Tip: you can make new folders and catagories (at least in 5.0) check your Help file for details..I made a Doga folder and a catagory for each catagory of Doga parts. Makes picking out the part you need easier.

See the image of the part in the upper-left corner of the object window? That's your thumbnail. Move it around until you get a good view of your part- left click rotates, CTRL-left zooms, space-left pans. Once you have that, click add.

You're done! Now, to use this part later, click on the create triangle again, find the part you want, click on it and click the check mark.

These instructions are for L3 and Bryce 5; might vary a bit with other Versions, if it works at all.

phoenix just wondering if you could tell me the improvements from Bryce 4 to 5. How much different are they? My buddy just got 5 and it looks the same as 4 to me. Couldn't tell what was improved so maybe you know.

Uh, I'm not sure. There's a 30-day trial (fully functional) available from Corel, you could try downloading that to see..

'tis done.

Doga Parts

Two options to install. Either unzip the entire thing- making sure to leave "use directory structure" on- into your Bryce/Presets/Objects folder, or extract them wherever, load up Bryce, click the triangle next to the Create button, then select import and point Bryce towards the unzipped .obp file.

EDIT: note that this isn't *every* L3 part; some simply wouldn't work, some I didn't feel like exporting (redundant, crappy part, etc etc etc). It IS a lot- probably most- of them though.

Say, could you provide a link to Bryce's home page, I would like to read up on the product.

Thanks

Bryce 5 page (corel)

Note: don't order it from here, it's overpriced from that site

I got it because it's flexible enough to do what I need, and because I've used it before. Also because I could get it on the cheap ($79). It is NOT a modeler except for very simple ones; it's more of a terrain generation, animation, and rendering program.
