Default Encounter at Grodzisko 9/39

Kapitan Kolasa is on the move once again, this time escorting the 100mm battery of the 16th Motorised Artillery Battalion through the pass at Grodzisko (roughly between Myslenice and Kasina Wielka) to regroup with the remainder of the Brigade north of Kasina Wielka.

Historically this is a bit of a grey area, the best information I've found, along with noting some of the ambush locations as the Black Brigade secured the south flank of the Krakow Army, also mentions unspecified counter attacks. With this scenario I've taken the liberty of stretching that unspecified action definition a bit.

This scenario assumes that after the ambushes conducted by the Black Brigade on the 5th the main body of the Brigade would be withdrawing north and the detached elements would be rejoining it for further operations. Of course at the time Black Brigade HQ had no idea that their entire mission was about to go kaput as the main front of the Krakow army collapsed.

In the scenario, lead elements of the German 3rd Mountain Division have advanced over the mountain and are approaching the pass from the southeast. The combat group of the Black Brigade led by Kapitan Kolasa is approaching the same pass from the west. The map is inverted to reflect this without messing around with swap sides.

There is a bit of a twist to the scenario though, the Polish force contains the 100mm battery which has been modified to have a very high point value. The scenario begins in the predawn hours but towards the end of the scenario it is assumed to be light enough for possible Luftwaffe operations.

Hope this is of interest,
Brian

Marginal Victory in 16 turns 1868/404.

I lost my observer team after mixing them up with the patrols and sent them to a place they should never have been losing them and their vehicle in the process. That was 20% of the points lost right there.

The Luftwaffe never made an appearance

The Luftwaffe will not turn up until past turn 16 at the earliest. It is a chance based reinforcement, so even without an early ending you might not see them.

I was a bit leery of doing this type of scenario without having an 'exit victory hex' mechanism. I figured the late Luftwaffe threat would provide a bit of an incentive to push the pace a bit and serve to give the scenario a bit of the same overall feel as if there were exit victory hexes.

The german force is a bit lacking on AT capability, I'm wondering if I should add a few ATGs into the scenario to make up for that? Or would that make it too difficult?

Thanks,
Brian

PS: also just realized I forgot to set a rally point for the Germans...

Seeing as you are pushing mountain troops over hills on foot there is little chance of them having AT-guns.

AT- rifles, on the other hand, would make sense. However, the Polish infantry is fragile to be charitable and the TKS's are the only thing that really can stand up to concentrated rifle and MG fire so you may find that making it easier to kill the TKS's may tip the scenario into "cannot ever win" territory.

Wait and see any other feedback you may get but a couple more AT -rifles might be all you need to keep things interesting.
