Dominions: Total War
Here is something cool. I recently had a chance to talk to one of the designers of the Total War games and mentioned how I always wanted to see a Fantasy version of Total War. I suggested he take a look at some games like Dominions 3 and see if they could apply some ideas from it for a Fantasy Total War game.
Then the other day he gets back with me and says he played Dom 3 as did several others on his team and they really liked it and thought a lot of it could work with Total War and they were considering contacting the Dominions developers to see if they would be interested in joining them to work on a new Total War title.
It sounds pretty cool to me, I hope it works out.

Re: Dominions: Total War
Oh
My
God
I have lascivious fantasies of this. Ever since the day I started playing Dominions, I have dreamt of a union of Dominions and Total War.
Gah..... Now I won't be able to sleep until I either hear there will be no project, or it is complete.

This would be pretty amazing to see. But why is this thread in the multiplayer forum...?

It was here because I think the MP forum gets a few more views than the other ones do and so it was a better place for an April Fools joke..
I sure would like to see a Fantasy version of Total war though and one taking inspiration from Dom3 would be even better.
That or an Earth: Total war that covers the entire globe and spans across The rise of Rome through the centuries to the 1800's or even beyond. Which I think we are likely to see next as it appears they have just been laying the ground work for such a thing with Empire and their previous games.

Hmm, there were a lot of effects in Medieval2-Kingdoms and the engine seems to support multiple attack forms and Army Buffs. Maybe you could already mod some mages as heroes into it? Damn, must resist the urge to reinstall.

Wouldn't that just be Civilization only with more of a focus on combat?
Personally I'm wagering they're about to revisit Shogun what with their reworked black powder weapon approach, that and they're due.

Yeah that's actually what I said to Jim in a PM how it would be similar to Civ or what we were talking about how different nations may split or go into civil war when the king dies etc. which would be the only way to keep a nation from achieving total global domination early in the game. There is a Mod for Civ that does sort of the same thing with new nations being born at certain points in history etc. I forget the name of that Mod.

But what do you think an Earth: Total war would be.. It would be just that. A point at which they can work Japan and what they had in Shogun back into the Total war series except this time incorporating everything they have done into the series, which is another point I had made to Jim about how I thought it would go full circle and return to include japan in the next game.
Thankfully in a time where more and more game designer seem to be dumbing down their games to appeal to all the mainstream idiots, the Total war series has actually been adding to the depth of the series rather than taking away from it and I'm betting the next one will only add more.

Re: Dominions: Total War
I was gonna suggest having a look at the calendar, but you beat me to it, Jim.

Re: Dominions: Total War
I was just saying to a friend the other day how the game mechanics of the Total War series crossed with an intellectual property that was actually -interesting- like Dominions would be one hell'uva game. I'll be following this thread with interest
Edit: Ah, April Fools. How you continue to torment me..
