Default Night Illumination

This topic has most likely been discussed before however I was unable to find anything about it on the forums.

Recently I was playing a "night" mission in the Vietnam campaign and I had some questions.

Does the game have a "night mode"? I.E. something other then just >2 visibility?

Is there starshells, do explosions and fires emit light?

Love the game, Thanks for all the hard work.

Nope, 99,9999999999% impossible to do so due to coding constraints. It'd be nice to be able to fire on an enemy silhouetted against a fiery backdrop or to have illumination shells, but not gonna happen AFAIK.

Thanks for the reply.
I wasen't asking for a feature to be added to the game. I think this thing is just about maxed out.

Basically I had a hunch that fires/explosions were causing my units to get spotted easier by the enemy. Must have been my imagination.

Well...if a unit of yours fires more than once from a location, even if it is hidden, it is only a matter of time before it is lcoated by the enemy, especialy if there are enemy units close enough to be able to locate it. Not exactly what you were asking, but I think that was covered by Marek.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that some of my units which had not fired at the enemy or within the enemy's (theoretical) LOS (including visibility of 2) seemed to be spotted while adjacent to a fire hex. At first I assumed this was the fire emitting a large amount of light on the surrounding hexes. It turns out this not the case because the game doesn't emulate "darkness", just visibility which are 2 different things. Perhaps being ADJACENT to a fire hex effects moral the same as being IN it?

I want to restate that I am not requesting this as a feature. The game is PLENTY good the way it is

Dont take as gospel but if you are talking fire from your own wrecks its not the fire but the sight of your burning vehicles that effects morale in the area.

Correct - own wrecks within 500m or so have a very small S addition. (Large one in the turn they brewed up of course!)

So, being adjacent to a fire hex does effect moral similiar to being in it? I think this answers my question because suppressed units are easier to spot.

Fire hexes - can cause damage and suppression from being in one, nothing outside one.

Friendly wreck hexes - cause S to friends nearby (burning or not).

Own Supression - does not affect the chance of being spotted. (Unless og course you are now retreating as a result = moving )

Do wrecked buildings and cratered landscapes effect suppression? What about just plain old smoke? What I'm trying to say: does a horrifying destroyed city effect the troops.
Do enemy wrecks cause a morale rise among friendlies that are close by, like: "Ah ha, see how invincible we are". The defeated enemy is piled around.
