Default Neutral Races

Forgive my ignorance if there is an obvious answer to this but upon encountering another race during the game, is there a simple way to immediately determine whether the race is a neutral race or a competitor race, short of memorising all the competitive races in the game ??

Do you think planet populations ought to consume organics ?? The higher the population, the greater the consumption, with a deficit in production resulting in starvation and a population decrease ???

Also, what is the point of reporting a 17% reproduction rate when the population has reached it's maximum level, or are we simply to assume that the death rate is also 17%
Just a thought.

Best wishes to all fellow SEIV players.

when you examine a neutral race, their attributes will all be 'average' and they will have no special racial traits.

Im guessing that any star-fairing race should be able to produce enough food through hydroponics or whatever to feed any number of its people.

the percent increase of population on a full world is handy: if you decide to transport a bunch of those people off to another world then you will know how fast the gap should be filled in.

hope these help.

Given that there are only six neutral races it's not hard to remember them. But, assuming you added many more or were just not familiar with all of them yet, they all use the "Generic" ship set. So, you'll be able to recognize the ships every time. I guess that could be changed, too, though. Adding a custom ship set for each neutral race could really begin to swell the size of the game, but what's 500 Mb of disk space these days?

There will be clues in their description texts. Or you could look at the directory structure in windoze explorer...

I think population growth rates generally take death rates into account already. In 4X games they do anyway=-)

Dog, the largest planets hold about as much people as Earth has *now*. And I think a gas giant has just a weeeee bit more space avaiable to grow food on (er, in)

and we can. actually, we probably do. but for social and political reasons, (not to mention economic) we dont share. you often hear bleeding hearts talking about why there is "no reason for there to be hunger in the world." well, thats not exactly true, its just that they happen to dislike the reasons.

I suppose those reasons could still exist in SE4, but if those reasons existed you would not think you would have a centralized government in your empire, instead you would have to deal with different nations and factions within your species. in which case, you would probably be a 'neutral' race instead of one of the more powerfull ones.

And if it's a standard neutral, they will have a "plain" flag. Color on top and bottom that gradually lightens toward the center.

As was said... we do grow enough food in the US alone to feed the world... if you got rid of cattle and used grain and of course you could expand that base by getting rid of government subisidies that pay not to grow so as to prevent OVERPRODUCTION. The main reason we have starvation is economic. If you want to get all this food to the starving people of Africa, Asia, etc... you have to fly it over there or ship it. It would likely have to be refrigerated and of course the craft themselves take fuel and pilots... it all costs alot and it just doesn't seem that anyone is willing to pay that much for unproductive people starving out of sight. As for starvation in the USA and closer countries, yes it is there but you have a supply economy... people supply... but only if you can pay for it. The government plans are small and meager especially in comparison to other nations. Anyways I don't have an answer or anything just pointing out the facts... and of course with advanced farming technology of the future my guess would be you could have protein farms in basements and growing hydroponics at the top of a building with a clear open dome or any other sci-fi type stuff that would easily counter such food production requirements. And of course if you did that you would have to add a racial trait for races that eat less or more or don't eat at all!

Personally I view the Organics as primarily being pLastics and biomaterials for medical usage etc... more technology oriented ogranics and rare things than a food product.
