Can't get demo to work
I downloaded the demo and installed it but can't get it to run. I click on the icon and an error message pops up saying "WPP Demo has encountered a problem and needs to close". Not much to go on there . . .
Can anyone help?

Re: Can't get demo to work
It demo worked okay for me the first time that I ran it.
The second time, it froze up, and I had to kill the program via Task Manager.
My system is wintel with XP patched to SP3.

Re: Can't get demo to work
Did you unzip the folder to a temporary directory and install from Setup.exe ?

Re: Can't get demo to work
Grifman,
It sounds like one of the prerequisites didnt' installed correctly. Are you running on Vista or XP?
If you’re running on Vista, can you try the following?:
From the directory you unzipped the demo to, double click on
vcredist_x86.exe
xnafx20_redist.msi
direct\DXSetup.exe
If you’re running on XP, try
Netfx20sp1_x86.exe
xnafx20_redist.msi
direct\DXSetup.exe
Please let me know if that works.
Thanks,
John Hawkins

Thanks, that did it. I'll now give the demo a try.

Re: Can't get demo to work
Hello,
I downloaded the demo and followed the steps above. The game seemed to install properly, but when I click the shortcut, nothing happens. I also tried the application icon in the game folder and the start menu icon, but nothing happens. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still nothing. Any idea what might be wrong?

Re: Can't get demo to work
What kind of video card do you have in your computer? The computer that I'm trying to run it on has only a built in (on motherboard) video chip and while DirectX 9.0c compliant (per running DXDiag), it obviously isn't enough to run the game.
Look in the directory where you installed the demo for a file named WPPErrorLog.XML and open it in notepad. If it's not empty, then your error may be in there. In my case, the last line reads:
"Outside Exception Catch: Could not find a Direct3D device that has a Direct3D9-level driver and supports pixel shader 1.1 or greater."
So the game that I pre-ordered will just sit there until I can afford to upgrade my video card.

Re: Can't get demo to work
GJK,
Would you be willing to send me your DxDiag info so I can investigate the error you're getting?
Thanks,
John Hawkins

Re: Can't get demo to work
Aberdeen,
After you click on the icon, could you check in the directory where you installed the demo to see if there is a file named WPPErrorLog.XML?
Thanks,
John Hawkins
