Default Throne of Heroes Released

Throne of Heroes is the culmination of many months of work and testing, and is an update to Worthy Heroes 1.8 for the Middle Era only. The mod adds several new heroes designed by both myself and Burnsaber. I owe all of the graphical work for my Heroes to Amos, and he is properly credited in the readme file. Llamabeast also did work on the Ancient Yeti graphic.

There is an extensive read me file with the download. It shows every hero for every nation, and the source of that hero(whether vanilla and spruced up or created by a player). It also shows in Italics the heroes that are new and not in Wh 1.8. And it also shows any notable new abilities that the new heroes have(battle spells, summons etc).

Because luck needs a bit more reward, and this fact is evidenced by most experienced mp taking 3 order/2misf, Throne of Heroes has tried mightily to make all of the randomly appearing heroes relevant no matter when they appear. A hero does not automatically appear to aid your cause. In fact, in many of my test games, not all heroes appeared even with 3 luck and the game ran to 200 turns.

Also, human heroes tend to be too weak stat wise to be of much use past the early game. To counter this, and make human heroes more competitive and still thematic,
I borrowed from Turin's Skills of the Gladiator that he used in Worthy Heroes. I created Skills of the Champion and Skills of the Weapon Master and these abilities cause afflictions.

These affliction-dealing abilities give the human heroes value beyond the early game. Some new weapons were also created that deal afflictions.

And then there are several fun new heroes. I think many will like Burnsaber's story lines
from the Storm Knight/King Eagle, to three Oceania Heroes. He has others as well. It is my hope that some will enjoy the ferocious Ancient Yeti and cringe at the ruthlessness of the Prince of Flames.

Despite comprehensive personal testing, I am sure the mod contains some errors. All suggestions and comments are welcome. Enjoy!

There will be a separate download for the blackthroneview that was created by Turin. It goes into the map folder, and if you select EA Ulm, shows all of the Heroes. I decided to make it a separate download since these files go in a different folder.

Awesome. I love these mods. I've always thought that the heroes need more love.

Thank you.

One question, slightly off topic.

I'm far from the foremost computer maven, so I am wondering if there is an advantage or other benefit to placing the download on a site like you did as opposed to using the mechanisms of this forum. I have recently performed my very first upload and because I had no problem accomplishing it, I considered it easy to use.

I found this site to be an unreliable place to put downloads. There may be more stability with the new board-time will tell.

That was a passing problem and was caused by certain indexing bugs and corrupted something (I forget what exactly) on the old forum that was finally tracked down and permanetly fixed there months before the migration. It is a non-existent issue now.

The original readme was done in Microsoft Word, and the Heroes that were not in WH 1.8 were in italics. Turin thought it was better to use notepad as many people may not have Microsoft Word(in fact he could not open the readme). So I converted to notepad. But Notepad did not carry over the italics.

Obviously all of the new heroes by Xietor and Burnsaber were not in WH 1.8, and the Sentient Hydra, which was in earlier versions of Worthy Heroes, was not in WH 1.8 either. It appears for both Pythium and Ctis.

Aside from those, Masatora, appears for Shinuyama, with a new descr. to justify his presence in this age. And a new multihero, the Dai Tengu, was also added to Shinuyama.

Of course the 3 vanilla heroes for Ashdod were not in WH 1.8, since the race was added after WH 1.8 was released.
These 3 heroes are already powerful and received minor tweaks in Throne of Heroes, extra slots, removed old age, one got a research bonus because his descr. says he is the librarian for the race.

Xietor Heroes(4)

Prince of Flames-Abysia
Ancient Yeti-Caelum
Death Cult Assassin-Ermor
Disciple of Steel-Ulm

Burnsaber Heroes(6)

Bandar Log-King of the Jungle

Caelum-Storm Knight

Mictlan-Imprisoned King

Oceania-Lord of Pearls

-Druid of the Seas

- Black Prince
