Why is Mardi Gras always followed by Lent. Couldn't we have a few weeks off, then have Lent? Oh well.

(Assuming this is a serious question...) Lent is the reason for having Mardi Gras.
If one follows the tradition of giving up something for Lent, Mardi Gras is the last chance to indulge in it.
