Sound Mod
I would like to change the default sounds in the game.
What I need to know is where can I find which sounds are currently assigned to what unit. Or a list of what weapons/vehicles use which file. I looked in the OOB editor and only saw a slot (currently populated by a '0') to change the sound file, but not the one it now uses. By the way, I don't intend to use the OOB editor to change the sounds, but will replace the sounds that are in the sounds folder.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions, sound files, links etc. that would be great. Or if you know of any mod that already exists.
I'm no expert, but know enough to back up the original folder first. My experience with sound is limited to taking a SP wav file (incoming heavy artillery shell with explosion) and copying it to my incoming mail program, so it's quite appropriate when I'm waiting for my PBEM opponent to get back to me.
Merry Christmas to all...

Re: Sound Mod
If you don't have any intention to create new sounds then its pretty simple. If there's a 0 in any "sound" field, it plays the default sound. Otherwise, you can manually enter a specific number into the slot and it will play that sound instead. So basically, if you find a sound in the appropriate format, just assign it a number (up to three digits I think) and toss it in the sound folder and then put that number in the appropriate field in Mobhack.
I'm not sure what the default sounds for other non-unit actions (like artillery sounds and such) are and I'm sure you'd have to change the files currently in those slots to change that.

Re: Sound Mod
If I use the OOB Editor , even to only edit sounds, will that create a PBEM problem as though I've changed the OOB?
I hope to only change the files in the sound folder, but I really need a sound map, so I know what's supposed to be what.
The standard sound files appear to be:
Stereo
22KHz
32 bit
Another question is: Can the game handle it if I used 44KHz or 16bit (for example)?
I can experiment, but it'd save me some hassel if someone already knows the answers.
Cheers

Re: Sound Mod
I can't see why changing sounds would affect PBEM. Otherwise I unfortunately don't have any other answers for you.

Re: Sound Mod
Hi Andy/ Don,
Sound file '11.wav' is missing from the sound folder, and it's not a 'null'. It's in the ini file, so I'm not sure if some units are using 11.wav and there's silence for that weapon/movement?
Also, do you guys have any sort of sound map, or info regarding which sounds are assigned to what weapon class?
That would really be helpful.
Lastly, I noticed that when a sniper shoots the sound is sometimes single and sometimes 3 or 4 shots in a row like a semi-auto. Why wouldn't it always be a single shot sound?
cheers,
Cross

Re: Sound Mod
Ok, I've fooled around with the sound enough now to realize some of the limitations and problems.
Despite this I've managed to improve many of the sounds; especially the vehicle and aircraft sounds.
But I could still really use a sound map? Perhaps you guys at SPCamo have never seen one, and you just left the sounds as is. In which case just let me know 'there is no sound map' and I'll stop pestering ;-)
Thanks,
Cross

Re: Sound Mod
There is no sound map, other than picking your way through the code, line by line.

Re: Sound Mod
There was a XLS "sound map" done by one of our original playtesters right at the start of development that gave a list of the sound numbers in the game and what they roughly corresponed to. It was never updated and I kept it around as a rough guide ( and it was handly for that ) but it was lost this past Christmas Eve when my old HD fully and totally failed. It was one of those things that just never got backed up. Fortunalty, all the files for the next two patches were backed up.

Re: Sound Mod
Hi Don,
Sorry to hear about your HD crash. I've had one or two of those, never good...
As for a 'sound map' I coincidently found an old one yesterday posted on some obscure corner of the internet.
It's a word doc and is similar to what you are talking about as it's a rough guide. It also lists sounds for SPMBT. I'll upload it to this post so you can download it.
I compared it to the SPWW2 sound map (rough guide) that I've been drawing up from scratch, and it's encouraging that we came to a lot of the same conclusions regarding the identity of various sounds. However, I disagree with it in a few places.
I've renamed the file but otherwise it's exactly as I found it.
When I've completed my own SPww2 map I'll also upload that.
cheers,
Cross
