Default Random Commander

3.10 compatible version now available.

NOw both commanders and starting troops are randomized (you get troops and commanders from your nations possible troops). Note: valuable troops are more likely to come in fewer numbers (i.e. you probably won't start with 10 hydras or cave drakes)

Please see the readme for instructions.

Orignal Post-------------------------
Does anyone have a list of all units/monsters (& their number) by nation? Is this in the game directory some where all ready?

I'm trying to create a random starting commander mod, but I need the possible commander #s for each nation. Any ideas?

Edi's unit database. You'll find a link from his signature, and he has lots of posts in the sticky bug threads.

Great. Thank you! I had seen his database, but I thought it was something else at first. It indeed has exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again.

Is there a list of the new nations numbers - you know like Lanka, Tir na n'Og, Eriu ?

Not a comprehensive one yet, but I plan on including it to the DB later. Lanka is 68, but I don't know the nation numbers for Eriu and Tir na n'Og.

Currently the mod replaces the scout. I may change it to replace the other commander. Unfortunately, there are some issues with doing that as you also have to replace the starting units. And not all commanders could handle 20 units to start. I'm not sure how I want to handle that, so until I figure that out, the scout will be replaced in the mod.

Suggestions welcome.

Trowell (who I haven't seen in awhile) put in randomize starting province feature into this online tool. Essentially takes the .map file and randomizes it a bit.

I love starting with an extra commander with possible, troops/items. For a thematic approach check out Xietor's epic hero mod. For a pure random standpoint on an individual map file check out trowell's site:

http://dominions.realites.org/

Doesn't always work (think it has to do with start, no start, blank) feature. But can be real fun. Looking forward to a mod version.

For feedback from doing this a bit, random items are cool and random troops are cool. Random fantastic starting commander is great, but having say 20 titans show up as troops kind of sucks. You just roll over anything. In the same vein, a free starting "commander" the standard 30g/17res guy kind of sucks too.

IMO I'd make an effort to reduce the amount of plain vanilla commanders while at the same time reducing the amount of crazy powerful troops. Limited items as well (I think random 4 was used a bit).

Just IMO.
