OT: Interesting Naval Information
US Carrier List
Pretty cool. Lists all US Aircraft carries and what happened to them. I used the info from this site to view the Bremerton, WA ship yards on googlemaps. They have 3 carriers in dock at the time of the last Googlemaps update for that area and several subs and other ships. Pretty cool to see. I would love to be give permission to explore those ships.
You might have to zoom. Googl Map of Bremerton, WA

Re: OT: Interesting Naval Information
Speaking of subs, if you find the carriers on the map At linked too, look to the east. There are a dozen or so subs moored up there. It would be cool to get to check out those old ships.

I feel like such a spy lol
Looks really cool. I'm not going to comment on what we see as I can identify items that non submariners or non navy people normally wouldn't. And besides I already know what's inside them

Re: OT: Interesting Naval Information
When I was a kid, there used to be some WW2 aircraft carriers and the battleship Missouri (and others) there, and you could go aboard the Missouri as an exhibit. They might even still have some ships available for tours regularly. There are often warships available for exploring a few times a year in Seattle - often a nuclear aircraft carrier like one of those, like around the 4th of July or the Seafair weekend or whatever.
We had a Soviet nuclear sub for tours for several years, too.

The subs in drydock are pretty neat to see in the Google images, too.

Re: OT: Interesting Naval Information
Ya, we are all now on the NSA watch list and will be visited by men in black very soon. I wonder what my cell will look like down in Cuba? Will they give me an SE V manual to read since SE is my religion. (J/K)
I do bet they put this discussion through the ringer though. LOL

Re: OT: Interesting Naval Information
We have the Blue Bill (The sub that jumped out of the water in the Hunt For Red October) on display at OMSI in Portland. They give tours daily and its quite cool. (Although the tours are very limited and way to short.)
I would like to go to one of the Naval museums to tour a carrier.

Re: OT: Interesting Naval Information
There are some fairly large ships tied up next to the carriers. Last I was aware, no other warships currently operated by the Navy were near as large as a carrier. Are there missile cruisers in service that approach 3/4 the length of a carrier? Or are those some type of auxiliary ships next to the carriers?
