and I'm wondering if the new Space Empires 5 is that much better to spend $40 on a new game. Is the UI better? Is it more complicated, or less complicated?

No help for it now, but if you had bought SEV at Strategy First you would have gotten SEIV too.

As it is, I'd wait a while. SEV's UI is..odd. The complexity is about the same, a little more on SEV's side, and SEV is buggier.
