Mages that \"slowly die when they leave home\"?

Naiads and Nushis say that they will slowly die or wither and die when they leave their home?

What are the effects of this? Is it just fluff or are there penalties?

Does it basicly mean "stick them in a lab where they were summoned and don't move them"?
