field of view bug
Hi All
I think I may have found a bug that has been raised by several posters before. Bug being that during the game a units field of view changes without any apparent reason. Very disruptive to carefully laid out fire lanes especially in wooded areas. This bug is caused by using the zoom + and - buttons if you zoom out and zoom back in you can sometimes find that your field of view has changed (usually less).
Best Regards Chuck.

Re: field of view bug
First that I have ever heard of this one.
Do you have an example that shows this?.
Cheers

Re: field of view bug
Hi Andy
Happily machinegunning a Russian engineer squad at about 600 m in the woods, fired about 2 "shots". Zoom out to the next magnification to look around a bit, zoom back down to the magnification I was origionally at, engineer squad no longer in my field of view, I would imagine that the algorithm that calculates field of view is being called each time magnification changes. Dont know if this is neccessary or not but it looks as though it is not always giving the same results.
Best regards Chuck.

Re: field of view bug
There are bound to be rounding differences, in "edge" conditions.
Try left clicking the map a few times to make your unit "look again" in that direction, if you should see this. Each "look" will respin the LOS calculation.
Also - if you have fired weapons at/near the target and e.g. had near-miss splashes in the area, then there is the possibility that some partial smoke will be generated in the hex, but insufficient smoke points to justify a partial smoke icon, but sufficient obscuration in that hex to now just tip the LOS penetration algorithm.
Cheers
Andy

Re: field of view bug
Hi Andy
Yes I think it may be partial, invisible smoke as I cant seem to get it to happen by just changing the magnification alone. Ill keep an eye out for when it happens again.
Regards Chuck.

Re: field of view bug
Yes, there is invisible smoke or "dust" as I call it. You won't see it, but a hex can generally take 2 blasts from rifles or MG's being fired into it. Then it generates "dust" which has no icon, but can reduce vision or completely obscure hexes on the edges of an FOV (and in a single-hex firing lane, everything is on the edge).
