Default NATO vs WP Campaign Color Coded Operational Map

To help everyone see the BIG picture of the Campaign I have taken time to start developing a color coded Operational Map. Each hex is outlined and displays a color shading to show current team control. Each hex is marked with the actual hex ID for easier grid reference. For the players you can use this map to see where each unit is located on the map by matching the unit location information in the secure forums to this map.

NOTE: Because of the formatting/coding, it will only work with Internet Explorer (not Firefox)!

NOTE: It is almost 1.7MB in sise so if you have dial up, it may take 8-10 minutes to upload to your screen.

Enjoy!

FYI: The white shaded hexes are currently neutral control (or unknown to the other side for FOW purposes). The Red are known Warsaw Pact controlled areas and the Blue are known NATO controlled areas.

So let me see if I get this straight. For these massive campaigns, every hex on that map represents a battle between two individuals and after the first round of battles various decisions are made by a "god" that determine the second round battle participants and locations?

Yes, sort of. Each team has numerous unit commanders as well as a team commander. The team commander allocates artillery, air and fortification (mines and wire mostly) assests to his subordinate commanders and also directs their movement on the operational map. As contact is made the commanders of the units becoming engaged fight out the battles using WinSPMBT with all or a portion of their command (OOB's) depending on how spread out their unit is on the operational map. Once that round is over units are assigned new orders based on the end turn locations, unit status, etc. Play continues this way until the campaign is fought to it's conclusion. Players continue with their units minus the losses they suffer in previous fighting.

The hex grid is superimposed on the map to help with movement and unit tracking. Each hex is 2.5 km. There are 20 BIG WinSPMBT Maps fitted together so that they make the operational map. Each Mapsheet is comprised of a 3x4 hex grid.

They do normally take a fair amount of real time, anywhere from 1-3 years. The last big one I did (Red Snow) took about 2.5 years at least.

You will need to open it in IE to see the color shading on the hexes. I cannot get Firfox to show it properly. In IE is is really clean compared to FF.
