TSATC: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
Okay, for those who want the "fire on the move" ability of the MBTs in the 1973 and earlier scenarios removed, you can get the fix in the attachment above:
This file will adjust all MBTs from 1973 and earlier in The Star and the Crescent to require them to stop BEFORE engaging the enemy with their main guns.
Be advised that this patch will alter gameplay, requiring MBTs on the move to stop (automatically) before they are able to engage the enemy - this, in turn, gives the vehicles in a static defense a huge advantage and forces you to use your intelligence-gathering assets in a much more realistic manner.
If you wish to save your current database settings so you can return them to their original state, rename your TSATC.veh file to TSATC.old prior to unzipping this file to your Data folder. You may then simply remove the TSATC.veh file then rename TSATC.old -> TSATC.veh
If you have specific problems or questions, contact me via the forums or at [email protected]

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
Ok, this sounds good, but how does the AI handle it? Will they stop and shoot when a firefight errupts or will they charge headlong into the killing field until they are all dead?
Question: Why do I have to sign up for yet another forum to have access to this file? I can't download it unless I register as a user at StrategyZoneOnline.com.
Otherwise, I'd like to say thanks for taking the time to add little things like this to the game after it's release, it sure adds a great deal of replay value, and shows your commitment to your products.

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
Good point, Cantata! I have included it as an attachment here!
Also, to answer your question - the units will automatically stop and fire as needed without special input from you.

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
Cantata,
Let me caveat Curt's answer. The ENEMY units will stop to shoot when they need to. YOUR units will have to be placed in "engage on contact" in order to stop automatically to shoot. Otherwise, you will have to stop them yourself.
Of course, if your units are conducting a "mission" order, the AI will take care of this for you.

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
Thanks guys! That answers my questions nicely. Thanks also for making the file available via this forum. I look forward to playing with this modification, as it would seem to make the game more realistic in terms of the technology available through 1973. Excellent work!

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
I have a question (or 3) for this fire on the move fix.
Will this affect older vehicles when mixed in with newer tanks in a scenario? IOW will the older vehicles still need to stop in order to fire, and the newer vehicles still have fire on the move capability? The reason I ask is because Curt says this effects tanks in scenarios before 1973...
Also, is there an effectiveness of fire modifier? What I mean is, older tanks that could fire on the move (like the M-60) were not as efficient or accurate as say the M1 when firing on the move... is this accounted for?
One last thing... of course, all tanks could fire on the move regardless of age or stabilization etc... chances are very good that they would miss (unless manned by Michael Wittman and Bobby Woll ).. but the capability was there nonetheless.. where this would be effective, and how it was used by some of the better commanders, was to suppress infantry or ATG's while moving quickly from one point to another. Accuracy wasn't important, the shock value was.
How that would be implemented I don't know... perhaps allow moving fire only against soft targets and only allow at best a suppress result.

Re: Vehicle \"Fire On The Move Fix!
The "shoot on the move" fix only impacts older tanks (the setting is by weapon by vehicle, so a vehicle may, concievably, have some fire on the move weapons (like MGs) and some stop-to-shoot weapons, like main guns.
The effectiveness is handled. It is set in the game rules, so that each scenario can replicate different unit training levels and effectiveness.
Weapons either do, or do not, fire on the move. Your vehicls will not take "pot shots" when they know they can't hit (unless you set them to suppress a target area).
