FAQ on Wiki Updates
The port of the FAQ on the SEWiki was getting a bit excessive with the sublinks, so I have now edited all of the pages to a new format. Now, every #.# section is entirely contained within one page. All of the extra decimal digits have been dropped, due to conflicts with how the table of contents boxes are generated for an article. I don't think this is a big issue, personally. This will greatly reduce the number of pages, while still keeping each page at a reasonable size. Navigation will be easier, finding information will be easier, and you can still make links to specific questions by copying the link from the Contents box. Note that some of these links can get rather long, so make sure to use the URL UBB code tags when putting them in forum links, like so:
Code:
short text to display
http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/FAQ_for_SEIV
What do you think?
We could still use help porting over the data.

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
Has anybody tried to make a script to port the data from forum FAQ to SEWiki FAQ?

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
Unfortunately that only gets so far. What do you do with lines such as "6.4.1.2"? To make them look nice, they need that replaced with little section headers, which can't be automated. I have been using regular expression parsing for some grunt work, so all I need do is skim through and add the titles. Like these:
Code:
^([0-9]+).([0-9]+).([0-9]+)
becomes:
\n=== ===\n
Check out sections 6.1-6.4 to see the latest progress!

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
I see the problem. It's a huge amount of work to port the whole FAQ.

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
I just made the section 1.2 to WikiFAQ. What do you think?
By the way, I don't quite understand the answer to the question in that section. I mean it's like the answer is to a different question.

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
This?
===
Q(Makinus): Does claiming a system have any diplomatic (AI) impact? As if you contest with another race a system the diplomatic instance with that race degrades?
A(Baron Munchausen): Yes, once you meet a race you'd be wise to UNclaim all systems that appear on your map of their territory if you use this method of concealing your own territory.
===
If so, it is an incomplete answer, but it is one way to never cause AI anger from overlapping system claims. If you do not claim any systems, the AI can never contest them via claiming.
===
Looks good, except you forgot the nav box template.
===
Here is a file containing the entire FAQ with the regex replacements. All of the === === type lines need a relevent section header put in. Dunno if this will help people add stuff faster or not, but there it is:

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
I see you've added the nav box. Good, the section is ready now.
Yep, that was the question I meant.

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
Added more sections and moved everything from 2.0 up to the new article naming convention.
Come on people, Wiki needs your help!

Re: FAQ on Wiki Updates
For anyone wanting to create a page for a shipset/ race (or to improve one that is already there) I've created a little article to help:
http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.p...pages_for_SEIV
More shipset pages would be great - We've got over 80 already, but there are something in the region of 300 shipsets out there, so there's a way to go yet.
