Default Any feedback on Romulan or Klingon AI\'s?

Just wondering whether anyone has any feedback on my Romulan or Klingon AI's.
I play on hard level with medium bonus and find them very tough, but, am interested what weaknesses people may have found in them.
Regards,

God Emperor

PS: Am just testing another further tweak on both races and will release it late in the week once I have tested it a bit more.

They do a good job of keeping me in my place on high dif/ low bonus unless I get to them early.
Nice job.

Am playing a game right now with both races in it. I played in a cluster galaxy with not all warp points connected. I was isolated from everyone else except the romulans. currently i have a partnership with them. I'm in 16th place they are in 13th out of 20.
We'll see what happens.It's around turn 50

Actually, there is something I noticed, perhaps this is simply a stylistic preference on your part, but both the Klingons and the Romulans do not seem to spend enough on tech after a certain point, their spending seems to lag others. This is especially evident in their choice of ship types. In my Last game they stuck with light cruisers long after everyone else was sporting battle cruisers or better. At one point I remember defeating 26 Romulan light cruisers with 6 battleships. I had numerous advantages over them, most notable were the fact that they were still using PD I and Ion Engine I. This gave them a trememdous disadvantage against batteships with Jocketed Ion engines + Solar Sail III (stellar harnessing is another tech which the AI seems to ignore) firing at them with level 5 seekers. I just restarted a new game using your latest AI (from the mod forum) and happily the Romulans and Klingons are in 1st and 2nd place respectively. They expand very agressively, very efficiently. I will let you know further into the game if they get stuck technologically.

Taken altogether, their efficient expansion and general aggressiveness makes them challenging and interesting to include in the game. The Romulans are one of the few races I have ever seen construct an armada (26 ships, even if obsolete at the time, gave me a scare!)

My game settings are "no neutrals, 20 hand picked races, AI set to hard and AI bonuses set to medium).

Magus38,
Thanks for the report. What you observed was something that tended to happen with my earlier Versions.
The problem was two fold;
1) If the races ended up in galaxies with lots of mining type colonies, there was the possibility that after building the requisite number of construction yards and military installations that they would end up building only a few Research Compounds.
I fixed this by putting a Research compound ahead of military installations and by deleting construction yards altogether (most planet types are allowed to build space yards anyway),
2) Given that the races were building lots of ships, their maintenance level was so high that the maintenance setting trigger was being activated, which forced them to build more mining colonies.
I fixed this by raising the maintenance trigger to 99% and reducing their ship to planet ratio a bit (in the latest patch I am play testing, I have dropped it down a little further).

Hope this helps any would be race modders out there!

I like the AI. Do you mind if I add it to my ship sets for download, giving you credit for the AI in the read me?

Atrocities, you are most welcome to....
Might be worth waiting until I upload v130h later this week though. I have extensively changed the researching of middle and late techs to make the Klingons and Romulans a bit punchier later in the game...

Great. As soon as you get it uploaded, I'll add the files, and upload the new ship sets. Thanks, you just made my day.

God Emperor is it possible to use your AI files without your modification of the tech area and components?
That's the point that prevented me from using your files till now.
