CD music working only inconsistently

After so long I decided to try out the CD music for SE4 again (it's not really all that awful

) and I find that it works only inconsistently... sometimes when I launch SE4 it works, and other times it doesn't. I've checked both the mod's Allow CD Music setting in settings.txt and the CD Music setting in the game options... both are turned on. Any ideas? When I put the CD in I get the installer, and I can play the music in a media player, so it's not like the CD is too scratched or anything...
