Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
Hi, I've been playing around and I was wondering where the settings are for:
Player Settings : Technology Setting
Low = 0
Medium = a moderate selection; this is what I want to change
High = everything
I didn't see anything in settings.. is this editable?

Re: Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
That would be in the TechArea.txt file.
Each tech area will have the following two statements.
Start Level: The level you get in Low Tech Start
Raise Level: The level you get in Medium Tech Start
Just set the level for the technology you want available and there you go.

Re: Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
They each have a different, non-editable formula for how the costs are calculated. Unfortunatly, I don't remember them.

Re: Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
You mean costs, Narf. He means starting techs.
I believe the costs were approximately like this:
-Low: The cost of the initial tech level is added to the total for every tech level.
-Medium: Twice the cost.
-High: Thrice the cost.
I'm fairly certain about Low, but I have serious doubts about Medium and High.

Re: Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
Low follows a linear progression. (10K, 20K, 30K)
High follows a quadratic progression. (10K, 40K, 90K)
Medium follows a quadratic progression as well, but all tech levels after the first cost half price. (10K, 20K, 45K)

Re: Help? SE IV Gold - Starting settings
medium and high go by the square of the level. I think High is level squared times the base cost of the tech, and medium is half that.
