Default Codec files arrested charged with screwing up game

Well it has been a lengthy enough day here. Been plodding along re installing stuff then playing a game, installing stuff then playing a game.

Played a lot of games today hehe.

I think I have the perps cornered.

A gang of files going by the name Codecs

I will be further questioning individual members to determine which offending codec file was responsible for the sudden interuption in service.

Guys, if you watch a lot of video content on your system, that means codec files. If you are having trouble, you might have to wade through all your codec installs, and see if one of them has messed something up.

Excellent idea!

Please let us know the results of your hunt. Many of us not-so-quallified users would benefit.

Thank you,

Gary

I use my most effective weapon Bill, the much feared delete key

Nooooooo Les don't touch that button ......

I plan to do an uninstall of codec files one at a time, and see what happens.

Might take a while, but what the heck, in this heat I am not in hurry to be doing much woodworking anyways.

Worst case scenario. I wipe the drive and do it again
Fortunately, I have not bothered to re install any of my games etc, so I have not lost time there.

Smartest thing I ever did though, was multi partition the hard drive. When I do these formats I am not losing the 80% of my computer that stores all the good stuff eh hehe.

Les (the Sarge?),

Can you play Spmbt finally? If so, you will fall in love with the game, for sure. And wait till WinSpww2 ocmes out, as you are a ww2 fan as me...

I once told you this will happen... <G>

Saludos

Les (the Sarge?)

How is it you are not sure it's me

Come on man, I am the most despised wargamer in the entire hobby (according to a small handful of miscreants).

How could you not know me (according to their creatively warped logic ).

Been able to play SPMBT but it has been spotty in the past.
I have dabbled with going back to Win98SE, with dual booting the system to allow for multiple OS installs (which would include Win98SE) as well as doing the labourious tweaking of the install before they gave us this recent version.

Results were often patchy at best, and usually unsatisfying.

But I have played it off and on over the years, just never really a lot.
Modern is usually 2nd fiddle to my playing WW2 settings.

I thought it might have been my Celeron, but indicators are it is one of several codec files I use to run largely obscure video files. I will likely do a purge of the codecs and see who was responsible. As I was running the game just fine through all the other installs right up till I got around to reloading the codec files.
I usually don't put a lot of thought into codec files.
This would be a first time that they have messed with something I cared a hoot for.

Gotta adjust the notion that codec files are just codec files now I suppose. Too used to deciding "oh need this codec to run this video", and installing it with no thought about it.

Yes you are The Sarge then, oh surprise <G>

It has been a while since the last time I saw a post of you...

PS: Kill the codecs, play the game!

so if I erase all of these what will happen and more importantly where are they located, and how do I know which game files from SP3 go to which weapon, I want it to be as close as possible. I know I can click on the MP3's in the sound file, but there are nothing to tell me what is what!

See the "sounds culprit" thread for information about how to change MP3 files to Wav files. It fixes all sound problems except for delay when a round hits a vehicle.
