Default invade a planet with no pop?

i am in a game right now where a hated enemy has a planet in an adjacent system with no pop. i went to invade it and it won't do it. the ships just mill about.

the entire fleet is on "capture planet" strat, plenty of troops and invader transports.

anyone seen this before? thanks.

The computer will not land troops on a planet without any population on it, at least in my experience. You can manually take over planets with no population.

Manually dropping troops requires tactical combat. If this is a PBW, PBEM or TCP/IP game, or hotseat turn game with tactical combat disabled , you aren't going to be able to capture the planet. You'll have to slag it. Or give him time to send some people ther eand then capture it.

Yeah, it seemed to work fine when Dinesku took my planet with no population, then my satellites wiped it out, in the Junkyard 24XX game

slag = the leftover junk from smelting ore

I.E. destroy it, reduce it to rubble.

Someone is a bit too happy with a flukey victory over a Crazy Romanian, I'm sure your empires news reports were more forgiving Ed

Bone: I've had that error a few times where the planet wouldn't be destroyed or damaged... I found if you just attacked again it would work again.
