New Project: a Player Guide: basic and expert!
Hi all,
from an idea of boron, I'll try during my holidays to start writing a dom2 players guide, both for newbies and expert players ... I would like also to include in each chapter something of thematic to make the reader feel in the game (like in the new D&D games) ...
I have to ask some permissions before starting:
Is there any problem if I include in the manual something taken from the original manual ?
Is there any problem if I include in the manual stuffs taken from other documents avaible in the net (if someone don't want to see his matyerial in my guide, please drop me an email) ?
Is there any problem if I include in the manual description taken from AAR thereads ?
Anyway, I'll try to do it for people in my game-club (just to make addicted of dom2 like me) and I'll pubblish it on the net if devs and other players will agree ...
finally, if is there someone interested in the project, when I'm bavk form holiday I'll send him some chapter (just to make evident the 'style') and he will be welcome to collaborate to the project.
good play

Re: New Project: a Player Guide: basic and expert!
Perhaps you should look at what Ironhawk and I have written:
http://benatar.snurgle.org:8080/~quinn/guide.html
It isn't finished yet, and contains some errors, and Ironhawk wrote some things I don't agree with, and probably vice versa But it is a good start and maybe we shouldn't duplicate effort.
Or, maybe you are looking to do something either more or less detailed, or more focused on rules vs. ours which is more about strategy, in which case go ahead. The more resources there are the better

Re: New Project: a Player Guide: basic and expert!
I know your guide ... is very well written and usefull (I like it) ... I was thinking something more on the rules than on the strategy ... and of course I don't want to replicate the work ... in teh future I would like also to include in the manual some strategy and probably I'll ask you to collaborate and write the strategy part ...
my "very ambitious" project is to be able to have a manual that:
1. first reading by newbies to get into the game (the feeling and the basic rules)
2. reading by expert to get more informations about the rules ("how that work ?")
3. reading by newbies/expert to have some hints about strategies
... I would like to allegate to the manual also some usefull charts (like the QR from Zen) in a way to have a manula that could be usefull also as a guide during you game ...
... sure that project is too much big for one persone and I would like to have help (expecially in writing the strategy parts).
good play

perfet ... try to write something ... I'll concentrate on the rules that is most a work of link, revision and restayling between the original manula, the manual addenda and something else ...
of course I'll keep out in the moment all the specific spell becouse I'm sure that the Zen QR on spells will see the light one of this days!

Ps. if you can send me something before tommorrow afternnon I'll bring it with me in holiday!

If you Email me certain parts you want feedback or help with strategy on and hound me with persistant nudges I can offer some help with strategy. I do have a mostly completed "Strategies by Nation/Theme" that I've been picking at all these months that I can just cut and paste and modify based on all the patches to whatever you are trying to create Liga.

Re: New Project: a Player Guide: basic and expert!
I think this project would become the Dom2 Strategy Encyclopedia.
Someone could spend $5 to register a name like Dom2Encyclopedia.com.. domclopedia.com? dom2faq.com? 2dom2faq? (Hmmm other ideas deleted as inappropriate for a public board.) Anyway it would be a good place to try and collect all of the strat guides done by all of the people.

How about starting a Wiki? I think there is one for SE4, and it would allow a quick start where everybody can write articles. You only need someone to look through and edit the submissions so there is SOME quality control.
