WORLD MAP - UGLY
That world map is ugly. Its hard to look at. The water is the wrong color too.
It took around 2 1/2 hours to down load. It took 2 seconds to delete.
They should take it off of the maps page. Its not worth down loading.

1. Just because you have a slow connection is no reason to blame the map for being a large file.
2. If it took you 2 seconds to get rid of it, it took you 1.5 seconds too long. You need a faster computer and/or faster reflexes.
3. The popularity of the map means your opinion that it should be gotten rid of is in the distinct minority. No one forced you to download it.

I agree it's not pretty, but there are other, fan-made maps at IW that I think are even worse to look at. The main problem with the map is that when you have the zoom set normally, so that it focuses on your small chunk of the world, the map blurs and the lettering also becomes hard to read. There are not enough pixels in this map, despite its large file size.

Re: WORLD MAP - UGLY
I thought the neat thing about the world map was that it started as an satellite photograph? Or was that the european one?

It may have. OTOH, I have bunches of global NASA pics and this map doesn't resemble them at all, other than coastlines. What I think the originator did was take a real pic and then repainted the interiors of continents. Problem is whoever did it lost all the hi-res data of the original pic in the process.

Re: WORLD MAP - UGLY
I agree the world map is very ugly - which is a shame because it is very cool to play on the world, and I like the setup a great deal. If I knew where to find a high resolution map of the world I might try to make a replacement, but I don't, and I'm not really very good at that kind of thing anyway. However, if someone wanted to revise it they can count me in for 100% moral support!

Re: WORLD MAP - UGLY
St. Patrick is dead on the money. I applaud the efforts of the map creator, acknowledge the hard work and encourage them to even greater efforts. However, the resolution issue breaks an otherwise wonderful idea. Should anyone want to give it another try, they have the support of a lot of lurkers!
I like the England map, it has a nice “flavour” and the resolution is decent. Perhaps that is an option to pursue, a world map scanned in. I do not own a scanner, otherwise I would be trying this out myself. I have a month of glorious vacation coming in seven hours and have some time to play!

Re: WORLD MAP - UGLY
I love the world map and particularly the World War scenario. The author did a very good job of balancing the strength/weaknesses of nations with their starting position, of putting some very special sites where they belong, and of putting the nations themselves where their background would have them.
I must agree it is not very beautiful. Playing a water race is particularly painful, as it is very difficult to see how the water provinces are set up. But for me, the fun of playing it far outweights the visual shortcomings.
