Beating a dead horse....
I've seen several other (and I mean numerous) topics regarding Ring Worlds/Sphere Worlds and Ships containg construction yards and the pros and cons of this system.
While reading one of those other Posts a thought accured to me.(rare but it happens) Has anyone ever seen an AI player actually build a Ring/Sphere World? I haven't.
And if you have, how far into the game were you?

Re: Beating a dead horse....
In the AI constructionships file there is one entry that could lead to a planet construction ship...
Entry 22 Type := Create Planet
Entry 22 Planet Per Item := 200
The problem there is that it only covers making planets from asteroids. There doesn't appear to be any ship type for cooperating to make a ringworld / sphere world.

The AI isn't smart enough to do this. Think of what is involved. You have to put at least 11 space yard ships, or 21 for a ringworld, in a sector with a star in a secure location and be ready to spend MASSIVE amounts of resources for years to build the necessary components. If something goes wrong, and it will in two or three years of game time, and spending has to increase for more ships or some colonies are destroyed and resources drop below the levels needed to keep the space yard ships building, the whole thing will collapse. And this is skipping the problem of protecting the space yard ships while they are building. The AI is just not smart enough to do the kind of planning necessary to complete this operation, and probably never will be. I do wish that you could put ONE single random "artifact" ringworld or sphere world into a game map, though. Would be really cool to find one, and would give the AI a good boost if IT found one instead. Run into an AI empire that's colonized a ringworld and you'd be facing a real challenge! This is the only way the AI will ever get a ringworld or sphere world. Except maybe by conquest from a player?

Re: Beating a dead horse....
If you were really maschocistic you could build one and then give it to the AI empire.
Although, by the time you got one built you would probably be on MEE status and I have found that they don't accept my gifts when I am on MEE status even if it would help them too.
I guess another way would be to build one and then switch to another player making your original race now be under computer control.

Re: Beating a dead horse....
Well, DUH! I just figured it out. It's easy. Build it and then don't colonize it. Until you colonize a ring world/shpereworld, it doesn't really belong to anybody!
Eventually one of the ai races with the proper colonizing tech will get around to colonizing it.

Another way of having the AI colonize Sphere/Ringworlds is to build a few on a map, save it, and then load the map for a new game.

Re: Beating a dead horse....
Interesting I wonder if you built 15 or 16 of them used atmosphere facilities on them and changed them into different atmospheres if an AI race would start out on a ringworld? Hmm a filled ringworld start that would be interesting. I will have to test that in a couple of weeks after I build a few ringworlds .

Since a homeworld is FILLED at start I think that you'd have to hard-code it NOT to allow anyone to start on a constructed world if you wanted a fair start. Or at least have a setting that controls this. So, if you are a masochist and want the challenge you can allow it.

Re: Beating a dead horse....
Its actually very possible and extremely easy to make a system with a ring world, or three or ten in it. . .
Who wants one? E-mail me and I'll amke you the data files needed. . . plus I'll send you my redesigned sphere world pic.
The virtues of experience. . . :-d

Why don't you just post it here? You must have discovered a tag that can be put in the systemtypes file that makes a ringworld or sphereworld appear?
