Default Gone Gold becomes addicted

The Gone Gold forums are starting to become addicted to Dominions2.

I see Dominions2 spreading slowly and requiring another print run in 6 months.

The ol' GGFE, eh? I challenge anyone to show me an internet message board with a more lemming-like aspect I admit the GGFE got me some good places (GalCiv anyone?), but boy have I burnt some bucks on stuff I should've left on the shelf

The strategy usenet newsgroup got me into Dom1. And GalCiv although I knew of GalCiv for years as an OS/2 game mentioned frequently in the AI forums

There are pros and cons to everything. Even this flood of attention to Dom2. Here is a quote about Internet...
"It used to be that you had to learn DOS to get to and learn UNIX to get
to and learn Internet. We had some rude people but no stupid ones. Then
Windows created "user friendly" connections and we got "Users" who could
only use a computer but knew nothing about it. Then AOL created
foolproof connections for those who couldnt figure out Windows and we
got fools. Then WebTV created idiot-proof connections and it seems to be
doing a great job of it. Now we have Xbox but Ive run out of words."

See a correlation? Dom1 was mostly discussed and popularized in newsGroups such as comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic. The fact that few Users on the net seem able to find their way into newsGroups had an effect I believe on the type of players we had. Web based forums are great for reaching more people because they are easier for most Users to find and get to (did I say "Users"). And the on-the-shelf magazines discovering Dom2 is wonderful increasing the audience immensley (can we say foolproof).

As much as I like the idea of one of us writing a "Dominions 2 for Dummies" book, I can see the pros and cons of that also.

-- HEY dont get all flamey on me. Im only half serious.

Actually, what got me into Dominions I was a google search on "R'lyeh".... go figure what kind of people this game attracted.

Ditto for both. Even counting Dom1's initial price as an addition to the price of Dom2, these two are clearly my two best buys in the Last year, for time-and-enjoyment-to-price ratio. Even the time I've spent on Neverwinter Nights doesn't compare.

You know, Karacan, that was a big selling point for me? A friend had downloaded the demo, but I'm on a very erratic dial-up, and knew the download would be a pain. Then he told me one of the races was R'lyeh, and... well, I had to see THAT, didn't I?

And then the demo was so good I just had to buy the full Version. Which was so good I had to poke around on the bulletin board to learn more...
