Default dominions I recycling

I once read in the newsgroup (THE newsgroup) that Doms I map could be read by doms II. Is it still true? do you have to make adjustements to them? I recall that neighbours are not detected anymore, so how it will works exactly?

2) what can do the map editor?, I have trouble figuring that. Do we get nice windowed controls to enter the script of the map without typing anything for example, with combo boxes, radio buttons?

Since you mentioned it, is there any site where you can find Dom I maps? I would like to try them in Dom II editor.

As far as editor goes, you can't do EVERYTHING in it but basically it goes like this; you make a map is some graphic editor program, load it into editor, set up all the basic stuff (like neighbors, etc) then edit in text editor to add special commands for map (like allies, specific special sites, specific population etc.) there is a document in PDF that will guide you through mapmaking.

Dom I maps can be found under downloads at www.illwinter.com I believe.

To make them useful you must remove the color dots at the top of the map. Otherwise there will be a province in the upper left corner of the world.

You should probably rescale the map as well, or add the line #defaultmapzoom 3.0 (or something like that) in the map file.

One important thing. The provinces are numbered differently, so old specials must placed in new provinces if you would like to keep them.

Also there are no terrains or province sizes in Dom I. All provinces from a Dom I map would be treated as plains of normal size, unless you reedit the map.

Thanks for this info. Some really nice maps there too.

I think i'll try that hexagonal North-America map since its most easier to place nighbours in it and its large map (I'm a sucker for large maps ).

Shouldn't take too long to make it Dom II compatible.

BTW, it'll be cool to have a Dominions "thread" at the Mod/scen forum.
Even if it should concern Dom2, it could also make a rally point for Dom1 material, even if the game isn't "technically" a Shrapnell thing...
