SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
If anyone is interested....after playing for several hours, I got an "Out of Memory" error message. I started Task Manager and it reported that SEIV was using 180Mb of memory (on a 256Mb system). Maybe an occasional stop/restart is in order.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
Interesting. I play SE IV regulary on a pair of Win2K machines. One has 256 MB of RAM and the other has 164 MBs. I never run low, or have SE IV eat significant amounts, and I sometimes leave the same game open for weeks.

I have no problems on a 128mb Win2k machine, and I am usually running Mediaplayer and an internet connection in the background.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
It sounds like Win2K is better at cleaning up memory than Win98 (which is to be expected). I have noticed slowdowns that seem to be memory related after playing SEIV for an extended period of time. Often they continue even after I stop playing, requiring a reboot to correct. I suspect that there are memory problems, but Win2K is able to clean up the memory when necessary. I am running Win98SE on a 128 Meg system.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
It has been reported that SEIV has a memorie leak problem. Another poster posted his memories useages in another thread. I hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
I'm playing SE4 on a Win98SE machine with an HP OpenView MeasureWare agent. I've got some detailed examination records of memory use and have seen very little "leaks" so far. I'll post the actual numbers when I run the report this afternoon.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
I also have seen the Out of Memory error message running SE IV under Windows 2000. My machine has 192 MB. Likewise, I have not seen the out of memory error when I play it on my 98 SE machine.

Re: SEIV/Win2k Memory Usage
This bug doesn't seem to effect everyone, so I don't know. All I know is I had seIV using like 900mb of physical and virtual memory before it ran out It happens really quickly when I use a lot of fighers...less fighters used in the game, the slower the leak. (for me anyways)
