SE III or SEIV?
I have reported RCE problem in the recent past. (Large Fleets (20+) with Dreadnought or larger ships result in RCE when in strategic combat mode). Because of this problem I can't progress in games the way I like it. I think SE IV was made for strategic combat, not tactical. It's not a shoot-em-up game. For the time being I therefore stopped playing SE IV. I hope the RCE's will be past present when the new patch arrives (I have send my same game to MM to take a look at the problem). I have also orderred the Space Empires collection (SE I, II, and III). Although I can imagine SE die hards will play only the latest release in the series, my question is: are you still playing SE III at all, and did SE III have the same kind of RCE errors after the latest patch?? Just curious, because it could be I will start playing SE III whilst awaiting the new SE IV patch.

Re: SE III or SEIV?
I've just recently unearthed my copy of SE3 and I found a whole bunch of features not carried over to 4.
Its definatly worth playing as it offers a different flavor of play and the bug have been patched out.
I started a thread lower down, mabey a page back listing these differences.

Re: SE III or SEIV?
SE3 is a great game. If not for a harddrive crash stealing my registration number and the fact that I'm busy testing mods for SE4 (and running our contest) I'd be playing it off and on. 'course I have a thing for falling in love with great strategy games and never stopping playing them. SE4 is the only game that came out in 2000 that I have installed on my home computer. None of the others I've played were good enough. Yet I have 6 or 7 games dating back to the '80s installed and used regularly (less often lately though, for obvious reasons).

Re: SE III or SEIV?
Thanks, you guys, I will definitely take a look at SE III. Besides that I'm in a great mood since I received response on my sending in the save game file that caused the RCE'S and this is what MM wrote me back:
Thanks for the savegame. We will be releasing a patch to fix up your
problem later this month.
Aaron
THANKS, MM and more specifically: THANKS, AARON!!!!!

Re: SE III or SEIV?
Aaron is great for getting out patches. SE3 had patches released for about 2 years after being released.
SE3... Yes, I still play it a little. I was playing a multiplayer SE3 while Beta testing SE4. The interface is totally different, so you'll have a learning curve.
Hint: SE3 uses the right-click button more than SE4. In fact, I wish SE4 used the right-click menus like SE3 did as well as the tool bar and hot keys.

Re: SE III or SEIV?
Armada 2525, Empire Deluxe, Star Control 1, Darklands (Microprose's RPG game), Star General, Emperor of the Fading Suns (recent by comparison), Birth of the Federation (also recent by comparison), Civ II (ditto), and SMAC (also ditto). That's the full list of games I keep on my home computer. I just recently lost my copy of The Ancient Art of War to a drive crash, and I no longer have my OS/2 partition to play Galactic Civilizations, but the PC port is due out soon so I don't mind. I'm looking for a better copy of Darkands, Armada 2525, and Star Control because mine have several corrupted files and don't play properly all that often. When I get more time I might load mankind back on ( www.mankind.net).

Re: SE III or SEIV?
Can any of the older ones be found as abandonware?
