Default weapon platforms

Once you make em how do you deploy em? They are just sitting in my cargo on my planet. I thought they would occupy a facilty box and provide planetray protection.

Please advicse

They stay in your cargo section. Do not worry if you get attacked they will defend you.

I have another question about Weapons Platforms (WPs). How do you scrap them? I'm pretty sure you can't retrofit any of the units, but I couldn't figure out what to do with old Capital Ship Missile I WPs when I want to upgrade, other than jettison. But if you jettison them you don't recover any resources (as well as seeming a very cruel thing to do).

You gotta go the cruel route here. Or ship them off to a planet with lots of free cargospace. Can't be scrapped. MM has been asked to add a scrap unit feature but I don't know if an answer ever came back. It also annoys me you can't decide how many to jettison if you have more then one of the same design. What if I just want to get rid of one? "Sorry, all or nothing sir."

There is another way - "lend-lease". Load them up on some old clunker of a transport and give the ship as a gift to a weak & technologically backwards AI (like maybe a neutral). The obsolete WP's (or any other cargo on board when the AI accepts the gift) go to the AI as well. You get brownie points for giving them a gift, and your old junk is off your hands. The superpowers do this in real life.

I'd like to see WP's show their shields in combat. I use a few WP designs which have 1 shield generator each, but in combat they don't show up. I -think- they resist damage as you go, but I really can't tell.

Maybe something nasty like letting them -combine- their shields as if the planet were one big ship and each platform was a group of components for it. So that you have to destroy all shield points before damaging one platform. Then teach the AI to put 1 generator in each WP for a planet, since I've noticed all they do is stuff weapons into them.

Add the range bonuses someone added to WP weapon mounts and suddenly those neutral planets might get tougher to crack if they are smart enough to jetison their older designs and build some with shields.

(It would also let human players make their planets well-protected by building a few WP designs with nothing -but- shields and maybe some regenerators in them.)
