BORG question for Modders
Would it be possible to make the BORG able to breath all atmospheres? I know its a reach, but think about it. They adapt, and this would give them a tremendous advantage whereas they would not have any.
Can it be done? If so, please say how. Thanks.

Re: BORG question for Modders
If it could be done it would make a great 5000-point race advantage.

Re: BORG question for Modders
Well the only way I can think of is add a ????pt ability, and then add a new facility, that costs nothing to build and do the samething as a atmpospheric convertor ... at least that how I'd think of it

Re: BORG question for Modders
Call the facility an "assimilation facility" or "cyborg adaptation facility"; go ahead and make it's cost similar to an atmospheric convertor, but make the time span something like .5 years (5 turns). Maybe add advanced Versions that will reduce the time to change atmosphere.
Of course, all this really does is create a super-facility for changing atmospheres, not create a race that breathes ALL atmospheres.
BTW - the Borg should also be able to colonize any planet TYPE (rock, ice, gas giant). Don't think that can be selected yet either...
Finally - Borg should also get major ground combat bonuses, since they would really be assimilating the ground troops; and have a preference for taking over ships rather than blowing them up.

Re: BORG question for Modders
However you could create a component under your Borg tech that can colonize all three types. An assimilation colonization module perhaps. As well add in the ship capture modules, or make it a shield depleting weapon and ship capture module.
There are standard components that are duplicated to some extent under some of the racial tech so this could be considered a similar type extension

EXACTLY! It should be set up in the game set up to allow them to be able to colonize all types. Thats it. Can it be done?

Re: BORG question for Modders
Someone did this a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away... oh wait; wrong universe; sorry ).
Anyway, they created a special colonization tech field, with only one component in it, which allowed colonization of any type of world (gas, rock, ice). They then made this colonization tech a racial trait and set the cost fairly high (to prevent player abuse, of course). I haven't played with this much myself; I've been trying to leave research areas, etc. alone. I did a fair amount of modding in SE3, but it was too easy to create seriously unbalanced items. So I move more cautiously now...
Anyway, hope this helps!

Re: BORG question for Modders
Sorry if this sounds line an inane question, but why make them able to breathe all atmpospheres? Ok... they adapt. But isn't a lot of their adaptation based on assimilating other races? Want to breathe oxygen? Capture a bunch of oxy breathing population from someone elses race by capturing their planet. You can then use their race members (species #2837!) to colonize other oxygen worlds.
It seems to me that that would be more borg-like than fitting them all with gills and personal methane converters...

Re: BORG question for Modders
My question is, why would the Borg colonize at all? Don't they spread by asimilation?
Give them a big ground combat bonus. I also like the idea of the combination ship capture shield depleter. That sounds very Borgy. (Is that a word? hehehe)Although it's probably easier to leave them separate.
They should have acess to ship capture earlier than other races though. Probably as a starting tech.
The rapid amotsphere converter is a good idea. I think the Borg truly are a race that can funtion in any atmosphere, but I am guessing that would require a code change. The converter would effect the same thing but be doable from a mod perspective.
All of these would give the Borg an immense advantage, so to balance it some, do not allow them to colonize any planets. My idea would be to only allow them to gain planets by assimilation of exsisting colonies or colony ships of other races.
