Default Kind of off topic, yet not.

http://www.gracelessland.com/main/la...Potential.html

Anyone read this? It at Gracelessland.com. They mention SE4 more than a few times. They even insult those of us who play the games saying "It takes a special kind of person, on a special kind of medication, to play these games. Someone with the attention span of an iguana. Someone on an intravenous drip."

And this guy is talking about developing his own 4x game. http://www.cruzbaystudios.com/ Called Space Command
A NEW ERA IN 4X STRATEGY GAMING IS COMING is all it says.

Just wondering.

I have a short attention span and I like SEIV. If this guy is developing his own game, I don't think I would be interested. You see, someone with a short attention span like myself, would not enjoy the boring game
that this guy is working on.

Well, I have a picture of the guy who wrote that review. I warn you, view it at your own risk.

I felt it fit him given his review of the game. You know what they say, if you write ugly things about games I like, you must be ugly.

Hey, give him some credit. At least he took the time to study the attention span of an iguana. You know what they say, it you can not beat them, belittle them. My guess is that this guy as no clue what we who play 4X space games like, i.e. he doesn't know his future market. I predict that his potential game will flop.
The only other thought is that he is really quite clever and is trying to use some form of reverse psyic. to get our attention and generate talk about him/his product. Best to just let him fade away.

In all seriousness, while I think the guy is overreacting, he does have some good points. In many cases 4X games have too much micromanagement to appeal to a large audience. If this guy thinks that he can make a 4X game that will appeal to the general public and still get us electronic Grognards to play it, then more power to him. I'd love to see a grand strategy game with simple controls and no micromanagement. Star General and Spaceward Ho were pretty good attempts in that direction, so was Star Control 1 (which to date had the third best galactic map in any sci-fi game I've ever played, right behind Mankind and Ascendency).

Well maybe the guy doesn't realize that it takes a little more intelligence to play these games than it does to play those reaction fest-Doom clones. Nothing wrong with those games, they can be quite fun, but they just do not require an appreciable amount of planning or forethought, especially when playing them Online. This sort of intelligence-required gaming actually appeals to some (many) people, and yes they require attention to detail. If this guy doesn't like it, then why the hell does he play these games and then whine about them? Running a government/empire does actually take a lot of time and effort, whether he believes it or not. I imagine his game will probably eliminate the areas we desperately want to control, and replace other areas with rather inadequate AI control.

Just call me ignorant, guys, but what is the "attention span of an iguana"? Is it short or long? How do you know? If it's long, are there any iguanas w/A.D.D.? And if so, what's being done to help them? Ridlin? Therapy?

There are very few iguanas in NorthEast Texas so my knowledge of the reptile is somewhat limited. We do have Bullfrogs. But, alas, I am not privy to the length of their attention span. But I digress....
