Default A few questions

Exactly what does population do? I can't see any difference in production from a planet with a few million and 8 billion. They build the same speed. Is there any way to know how much supplies it will take to move a given distance? Is there any way to set your quadrant preferences as default so you don't reset them everytime? My planets happiness seems to fluctuate alot even tho I am doing nothing in the system. What factors effect happiness if you choose a happy race? Thanks

Well if you want to colonize a planet you need population to do it. It would be bad if you took all the population from 1 planet to another no?

Actually, click on the Abilities tab on your planets to see that Population does have an effect (+% to production and stuff)

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

Population does effect production on a planet. If you click on the abilities button for your homeworld, you'll see a bunch of population-related bonues, including some to production.

I also suspect population directly effects facility production. The ship building rate is determined by the space yard's rate (so population is less of a factor). Facil construction might depend on population - I'm not that sure about this, though.

I don't know about the supply requirement for travel, either, but would really like to know it.

No idea about the quadrant preferences.

What creates happiness depends on your race settings. You can choose peaceful, neutral, or warlike (not sure if that's the actual name). Peaceful likes peace and when you make treaties. Warlike prefers combat and doesn't like you making treaties. Neutral doesn't like any involvement with the outside.

I don't know much about the happy race thing.

Population does affect how fast ships are built also along with population happiness and the level of the Space yard on the planet. If you want to see what your build rate is it is displayed on the construction screen close to the top. Thats the screen you set the build order. Right under the picture of the planet it shows how many minerals worth can be constructed there in one turn.

Also on a side note if you right click on the planets picture there you get the planet display so you can check what cargo you have or the bonuses and the mineral Ratings to help you decide what facilities to build without leaving that screen.
