Default Custom ship sets

1. Hey, when creating a new game... how do you get the other peoples ship sets when u set the game first up as game host.

I mean I've got a new game where many people have chosen custom ship sets. And I downloaded their empire files now but those don't contain their ship sets...

If I put one player on the empire list he gets flag A and when I remove him/her and put him on a second time he/she gets another flag! That can't be right..

Am I supposed to download all their empire sets before creating a game? Are the other players supposed to do the same? Because otherwise how are we supposed to see their ships correctly? Or is all of this included in the first game file?

any help would be welcome.

2. I noticed that for one player (who doesn't have a special ship set) every time I put him on he gets a different flag... this doesn't apply to the other 3 player that also didn't choose a special ship set...if I put them on and off and on again their flags remain the same. This seems very strange to me. Is it possible that he somehow didn't choose his empire flag???

When someone selects a custom set that you do not have, every time you add the empire file or open the turn, SE4 picks a random unused set to fill in the gaps.

SEIV might pick an already used shipset to fill in the gaps. It happened to me once in the NGC3 game, and two Empires were sharing the same shipset. It was the proper shipset for one of these, and a random shipset for the other one. This shipset is only present once in my directory, so the problem isn't here. A random oddity I gather.

Just to clarify:

The downloaded shipset must be installed in its own folder within the Pictures/Races folder. If you are playing a mod, the Pictures/Races folder must be within that mod.

If you are on PBW look for the shipsets with the blue lettering just below each player's empire name. This is a direct download link for that ship set and makes the download as painless as possible.

Check the path within the zipped file. IE. If it is simply /abc race , then just install as I said above. If it is Pictures/Races/abc race then install directly into your SEIV folder (or appropriate mod).

One trick I learned by accident. If you don't like the random shipset you are seeing, just run the movement log. When it's done, it will randomly select another ship set.

Actually... if there is no Races folder in a mod, it will use the default folder for them, so you do not need one. It is a good idea to keep it for those mods that require modified AI files if you ever want to play a single player game though.

Also, if you have the shipset installed in the default folder, just create an empty folder in the mod's Races folder with the same name, and SE4 will be able to use them perfectly.

Yes, all players in the game do need to download the shipsets of all other players (assuming they don't have them already ) in order to see their ships correctly. This can be done at any time, however, not just before the game begins, and it won't hurt anything other than the visual appearance of the ships

He probably just chose a custom shipset but forgot to list it with PBW. (You are using PBW, right?) Ask him to mail you and all the other players with the name of the shipset he's using so they can all download it.
