Ship designs not being saved
I can't seem to get the game to save any of my ship designs that use different mounts. When I make a ship with no mounts it saves fine, but when I load the empire in a different game I don't get my ships anymore.
Is there a way around this, or is it just something I'll have to live? Could it because I am using a mod?

Re: Ship designs not being saved
If you load an empire and then edit it before starting the game, you lose all saved ship designs.

I did not edit the empire at all, I did not even enter into the edit screen.

Re: Ship designs not being saved
What do you mean by "that use different mounts?" Having a modded game should make no difference, as long as you are loading and saving the empire file within that same mod.

Re: Ship designs not being saved
If you are loading the new game using the same Mod than the ship designs should load fine. If you are and they still are not than there may be a few reasons:
1) You are saving outside the Mod [directory] and trying to load an old or different save from in the directory, or vice-versa.
2) The mount you are using may need research that you have not done yet in the new game.
3) Some Mod updates/upgrades/patches whatever you chose to call them make old saves useless.
4) You are attempting to use one save design from one Mod in another Mod or the base Version of SE4 you have, or some combination thereof.
Try some of these and let us know how it works.

Re: Ship designs not being saved
What Fyron is trying to teel is that SEIV does NOT save designs when you save empire in game set-up window. The popping question "do you want to save designs ?" simply pulls your leg. To save empire WITH ship designs, you must start the game, then press F2, click "save empire" and then confirm to save shipdesigns.

Re: Ship designs not being saved
If your ship designs are not showing up at all, then mounts are not the problem. Your designs with mounts will still show up at the begning of the game, but the designs will be labeled with "(insufficent technology)" in the design window and you will not be able to put them in the build queue, but they will still show up in the game.
The problem is probably a mod mismatch issue. If you have designs made with stock or with one mod, and then you try to use that empire file in another mod, the game will analyze the designs and anything that is invalid because of components or mounts that don't exsist in the new mod, or are different prices in the two mods will be discarded from the empire file. Anything that is a valid design and costs the same to build in both mods will remain in your design list.
This was intentionally added to the code a while back to close a design loophole that some players were usign to cheat in MP games.
If however you are using the same mod, I have no clue what is going on. As Fyron says, as long as you are using the same mod and not editing the empire during game setup there should be no problem.

Re: Ship designs not being saved
I was using a mod, the Star Wars one, unedited.
I know it was only effecting ships with mounts because I tested it by making a ship with no mounts and it came up again fine. I had the game set to full tech from start so I know that wasn't a problem. I also saved the empire from inside the game, so it should have worked.
I also checked all the things you all suggested and it still wont save any ship that uses mounts

Re: Ship designs not being saved
So no one knows how to fix this? It is a real hassle having to remake the same ships for every game. (some using over 200 of the same component, click click click click click...)

Re: Ship designs not being saved
EDIT: WHOOPS!
Hey, I just saw what you are seeing. Yesterday when I tested this I didn't notice it because a lot of the designs do carry over and say insufficent technology on them like I said before, but as you say, anything with a mounted weapon on it does not stay with the empire file. That's kind of wierd.
No, there doesn't seem to be any way to get around it. Unless Malfador fixes it with a patch.
