Differences between Old and Gold
Hello,
I bought the original Space Empires IV a while ago and recently started replaying it with the TDM Mod pack.
I have just ordered the Gold Version. Will this have anything extra in it other than it being compatable - hopefully - with the numerous newer Mod packs?
Cheers!

Re: Differences between Old and Gold
Yes. Gold and the various patches for it add quite a few much better features.
My personal favorite is the multi-add feature. Select multiple planets click multi-add and you can add something to all of their construction ques all at once.
Several other nice features that help alot as well. Nothing I remember off the top of my head atm but I remember thinking they were very nice once I upgraded.

Re: Differences between Old and Gold
Well, in a sense it is not "new mods are compatible" - they can only EXIST with Gold. Proportions mod for example. MM put many extra features into Gold by our request

And there will be one more patch for Gold, hopefully sometime around Christmas! Man, Aaron's so nice, still supporting a game after this long!

Re: Differences between Old and Gold
Tons of stuff! See the patch history.txt file. A lot of it is subtle but makes a huge difference, such as having a stationary (or otherwise, random) player move or fire first in tactical combat, instead of pre-Gold's "use the player number order", which meant Player #1 always fired first when fleets started out in range. But, tons - read the pages and pages of history.txt.

Re: Differences between Old and Gold
A torpedo is a coherent mass of anti-matter (or quantum... anti-matter?) held together loosely by electromagnetic forces, until it impacts something.

Re: Differences between Old and Gold
Or just similar to today's torpedoes: a rocket (for use in space) with a antimatter or quantum warhead.
-----
One of the big things about Gold was the ability to make Drones.
The mounts are way more flexible now, and all of the mounts that do not apply to some particular hull don't show up in the list when designing with that hull.
