Default How about a realistic size ringworld?

Here's a project for some graphics whizes that I think might look cool. A bunch of planet pics that when placed in the right order would make a realistic size ribngworld. ie one that took up a ring of sectors around the sun. From the point of view of the game it would just be like a ring of planets. I though it might make a cool game to have one of these systems out there somewhere.

Graphics-wise it's certainly doable. However, it would have some wierd side-effects. First of all, each section of the ring would be considered an independant planet by the game. Would have to be colonized separatly, and could be owned by different empries. This is kind of cool, except that logically you would expect that ground units could be transfered between, or invade neigboring sections of the ring. Unfortunatly the game would not allow this to happen. Also, there would be no way to construct such a ringwolrd in the course of the game. This isn't neccesarily a bad thing though. And assuming it's allowed by the mod, you could destroy individual sections of teh ring without negativly affecting the rest of teh structure. I am not all that familier with the physics involved. Perhaps this makes sense, perhaps not. Simple way to avoid it is make the planet sizes such that they are not destoryable though.

Frankly, the game mechanics and scales for "ring" and "sphere" worlds more closely match with what would be considered "L5"-type colonies in real life. Not that that's a bad thing, but calling them "ring" and "sphere" worlds is somewhat misleading. It is totally unrealistic (as if ring and sphere worlds are realistic ) to have a Niven-style ringworld or a Dyson sphere constructable in anything like an SEIV game's timescale. You'd need "Space Odyssey" timeframes for that...

Given the size of a Niven Ringworld not being able to move troops from section to section other than via a spaceship actually makes sense. These things are BIG! Destroying a section would be srange since this should kill the whole ring.
Having different sction controlled my different empires is realisitic too cause again these things are firggen BIG.
It would definatlty look cool.
