Re: Poll: SE IV Platinum or SE V?
you know me q i would like to see seiv go gpl with source when sev is released.... That way both games can grow. ( ps no arguements here on why this is not true, pull up an old thread on that subject )
Q i would love to be given the chance to be able to design maps better / or set up the game so it looks like turn one hundred and hit save on a pbw game I think that people here could make that happen. While aaron concentrates on sev

Re: Poll: SE IV Platinum or SE V?
SEIV has had a good run, but I am ready for SEV. IMO, incremental improvements to SEIV will not be enough to stretch its replay value for several more years. I have enjoyed the mods and new races immensely. However, the base game has been played vigorously for a few years now and the base game is where the new life will be found for SE. More depth and control in fire and movement during combat – especially for simultaneous games? Ability to mod the combat AI? Ability to create scenarios, i.e. pre-position colonies and vehicles? More victory condition variations? Ability to mod scoring? Robust map editor? Rework really annoying things like the supply system and intelligence? I bought SEIV and SEIV Gold and got great value from them both. I doubt I would pay again for SE unless there were some revolutionary, rather than evolutionary, improvements.

Have you seen my Exodus scenario? The Chess scenario? There was an Andromeda scenario, and a ST:voy scenario too...

What is wrong with supply ??? I think it is much better system than any other space games !
Intelligence should be reworked, I agree here.
As to combat system, I still have HUGE reservations about real-time combat in SEV. And 3D graphics - no, thank you. I like ST, SW and Bab5 races custom made for SEIV. I doubt it can be repeated for SEV.

The problem with that is that a lot of code from SEIV is bound to be used again in SEV. So, making SEIV be open source would open SEV up to hacking galore...
Also, I would like to point out that MM has explicitly stated that there will never be a SEIV "Platinum" or anything like that.

Sure they can. Those ships were made with 3D models already. The ship set artists just have to make them in a slightly different 3D format, and they will work fine.

Yes, I have seen these scenarios – and I applaud each author’s ingenuity and efforts. However, like the map editor, I think a drag-and-drop capability would be more user friendly. I would be willing to pay money for that functionality.

I doubt it can be repeated for SEV. I would like the ability to transfer supplies between vehicles/colonies and vehicles/ vehicles exactly like cargo.
I would like to have the option to build supplies just like facilities or vehicle via construction.
The combat system in SEIV for human vs. human simultaneous games is the perfect compromise. SEIV is a combined tactical-strategic game. If you played out each combat in real-time, the strategic game would never progress. If you only played the tactical combats, you would get “fight to the death scenarios” and no repercussions (damage, supplies, position, etc) in the context of a strategic game. If you used combat results tables to determine the outcomes of tactical combats, you lose the tactical game entirely. Tactically, SEIV allows the player to design ships, give limited orders to ships and fleets, and then lets the computer play out the combats and report results – all within the context of a strategic game. Elegant. So for my money, I would like to see more player control over how the AI executes tactical combat – strategies and formations that can be more carefully scripted by the player combined with an accurate simulator. This would work equally well in 2D or 3D.

Which is why MM has never once stated any plans of making the strategic game real-time. That, and "real-time" never means "real real-time", but "pseudo-real-time". It never means "one second of real time = one second of actual game time" (for any sort of strategy game, at any rate).

I think he means that supplies should be broken up into more specific categories (ie: instead of one bar indicating supplies, there should be 2; one for fuel and one for ammo.)
As to combat system, I still have HUGE reservations about real-time combat in SEV. And 3D graphics - no, thank you. I like ST, SW and Bab5 races custom made for SEIV. I doubt it can be repeated for SEV.
There's a smorsgabord of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5 ship models already made out there on the web; You won't have to worry about not seeing the Enterprise in SE5. What you should be worried about is the potential lack of original shipsets, as DoGA (the number one tool used for making about a third of shipsets used in se4) isn't really made for 3d game models.

Re: Poll: SE IV Platinum or SE V?
Well, before this thread becomes another "Wishes for SEV" thread, I'd like to say I'd pay 25-35 $USD for an SE4 Platinum upgrade, that addressed some of the most popular wishes for AI improvements, mounts, damage types, etc.
And then buy SE5, when it comes out, in all its glory, for 50-60 bucks or whatever. I don't buy tons of games, I can save my pennies for Malfador.
What I wouldn't like is for SE5 to be based too heavily on the interface, and rule set of SE4. Don't get me wrong, I really like SE4, I just want to see the game go in a whole new direction, just so we all have to develop new stratageies.
So I kinda wished there was a way to vote for both.

Except that most of them probably have far too many polygons to be imported and still run smoothly..my Cluk-Ruk ships, for example, are 3d. They're also upwards of 20,000 polygons.
