Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
The attention span of an Iguana is highly variable.
It is usually about 20 seconds unless it sees somthing that might potentially be a meal, the it can extent to days as it contemplates if the object of its desire is indeed edible, and can it be caught.

Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
Actually, he makes a few good points, especially regarding micromanagement. The more "stuff" a game has, the more like work it becomes (for me, anyway).
Has anyone here played Spaceward Ho! 4? I recently reinstalled my copy and have been having a bLast! It reduces 4X games to the bare minimum, but I like it because it plays quickly and smoothly.

I personally like the mircomanagment. it allows for a lot of roleplaying and adds something more then just built a force and kill everybody.

Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
The differance between 4X stratigy gaming and plane TB stratigy is that with 4X, there is depth, with TB, its just a race.
Case in point. BOTF vs Armada. BOTF was a 4X game while Armada was a TB game. Which do you prefer? For me, it was BOTF. I sold my copy of Armada. Not my type of game.
So this guy, the dude that reviewed SE IV, is a Armada type player. He does not want micro managment, he wants to mass produce ships and pound the enemy before the enemy can mass produce ships and pound him. He has no skill, no patence, and no business reviewing SE IV. Nuff said.

Could please explain all these abbreviations for me?
BOTF? Armada? 4X? TB? and while your at it could someone please tell me what ISTR and IMO mean?
I'm not familiar with what these stand for I've seen them used before in these forums but they were never defined? I like to use abbreviations too but I try to define them at the begining of the post (sometimes I forget too though)
Thanks.

Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
igoblin,
the reason the terms you asked about were not defined is that most (all) are in common usage by the internet community or the gaming community. I'll supply answers for those I am able.
Armada = A game, not familiar with it
BoTF = Birth of The Federation, a 4X empire builder (I know, keep reading )
4x = EXplore, EXpand, EXploit, EXterminate, a style of strategy games
IMO = In My Opinion
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion
AFAIK = As Far As I Know
IIRC = If I Recall Correctly
ISTR = ???? Sorry, maybe someone else can help us out?

Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
What does OPP stand for?
I heard black people use it.

Re: Kind of off topic, yet not.
Well, it could be "opponent" or "opposite" (which are normally written opp. not OPP) but given the source, I'm pretty sure it stands for "Other People's Problems".
